One of the bonsai instructors from Qbonsai chanel says if you rub the trunk up n down it will get bigger.
Then he laughed a lot 😅

I'm sorry, but every single tree you showed us is bowling shoe ugly, with barely any leaves and scarred into oblivion. Maybe it was just the time of year, and yes sometimes you have to make some plants look half dead, but these are not good trees. Well, aside from the very first one. So I'm not sure if you're responsible for the first and the rest are rescues, or if you just bought the first.

I’m having trouble understanding but will keep watching in hopes I can understand. I’ve always cut my trees in a bonsai type pattern but little did I know I was only touching the surface of the art.

I can't make it passed the first 2 mins. The first question is nonsense. The answer is absolutely neither is better than the other. They are both fantastic trees. One is young has lots of potential. Why discriminate against your trees? Such a beautiful maple give it to me I'll take care of it and 30yrs from now it'll be show stopper!

I built a soil box 3 ft deep, wide and 10ft long and planted a few of my Pre Bonsai in there instead of in the ground for 5 year's to thicken the trunks while maintaining the apex. works out nice and fast within 5 to 7 years there ready for a pot and 8 to 9 year's ready for root reduction. Keeping in with what you do on top but keeping the roots free to explore and grow to there heats content keeping pre bonsai in pot's will take forever stunt it's growth maybe never get past what you want in a lifetime! Yes we want a dwarf tree but there is a fine line from stunting a tree's growth like foot binding! Once there at a certain stage there locked to this till they get repotted into a bigger pot if still training the bonsai and not just maintaining a show tree! What we look for is simply root growth and lots of it at a young age, keeping them pruned every 2 to 3 year's for best results before a tree takes on a stunted growth period and slows right down! You may have experience this at some time in your hobby? Elms are particularly prone for taking on this, pushing out lots of new growth before it stops and stays in a frozen state with half grown out foliage from new buds! I seen this exact thing happen on fb the other day on a syberian elm! The trainer was very confused till I suggested a slip pot into a bigger pot and nice soil! Loose the Akadama for a growing season or 2

Hey dude I like your voice, are you from holland like me? Hey I had an idea maybe you could do a expiriment with or a video if you are formiliar with this Idea!
Lets not cut the trees but to have some metal wire which u use, to do it around the trunck and tie it very tightly, So the trunck is knotted by a different manner!
Goodelucky! 😁😁😁😁😁

A tree will grow a trunk as thick as required to support it. I run an arboretum, one of the most consistent failures I see when people plant trees is they stake them too high and for too long and they form a weak union with the soil. The stake should be no more than 1/3rd tree height and only until roots have taken. It has to flex at ground level to encourage thickening, especially if you want a proper buttress and flare to develop. They are like animals they will not develop muscle where it is not used. Tiny fractures and tears get repaired and made stronger and mass is slowly developed.

If you are starting with young trees like maple for bonsai a useful tactic would be to allow a single stem to develop, brace the rootball inside the pot but expose the tree to the windiest spot you have in Spring and early Sumer. You could also shake them or bend by hand, as far as you can without snapping in every direction. Watch what happens to saplings in a big storm, do that. Certain species respond very well to scarifying, simulating insect or browsing damage with a wire brush will cause them to produce more and thicker bark. I will usually plant a bed of a dozen in a windy patch and come back three years later and select the fat ones to turn into bonsai it saves a lot of work especially for slower growing species like oak.
