Beginner vs Pro 4 // Engagement Video Shootout

Was still obvious just after the first video. After watching a few of these it’s always the same story. Josh didn’t have a deep layered sound. He didn’t seem to combine enough types of shots and depths. Most things centered. Jake had a few “rule of thirds” compositions, but also centered when appropriate. Leading lines which I’ve only learned about today from a few of these videos. Josh has come a long way from the boot commercial but there’s still those common elements he’s missing. I’m learning sound sound sound. Color was much better this time. But also, tell the story. Everything in 60p is just slow. Use speed to tell the story too, not just double the length of the movie.

Also, maybe to tell the story and building on introducing the characters, he could have started with the guy look bored or patiently waiting. Looks around, at the ground, whatever. Then he glances up, sees her walking over the hill or coming into scene like an angel, he begins to smile, you can see his heart and spirit lifting, then the classic couple coming together shot, then walking together, etc. ends walking off together towards the mountain. Even do the death scene where they walk off and fade out leaving just the mountain valley. A little overused concept maybe, but still works.

More story telling.

Jake's video was way better than the beginner's imo.
the colors (compared to a bit to flat), the focal length (compared to too close up), couple's acting, more versatile shots, movements in the video.

Pro vs pro next pls...

I think you guys are confusing music/ pace with emotion. Josh used a much more emotional song/ way more long slow mo clips, however, they weren't very well comped, graded, exposed or edited into the piece. The music carried that emotion more than the visual 1000000%

Josh's is 10/10 and Jake's is 8/10 imo; Josh's just hit me in the feels more, whereas Jake's felt more scripted

I was watching this today. However I don't think I am late judge with say of that 1st video is more stery telling & emotional but 2nd is very professional, the cuts, fram cuttinng & effect 🤟🏾

Geez - the difference is huge - if anyone would ask me to pay for the first one, I'd die laughing. The second one is fine, but the first one is terrbile.

Currently editing an engagement film for my friend and this definitely helped thanks for the tips!!

Josh's gave me, "Love story" vibes, whilst Jake's gave me more of a "Commercial" vibe.

I thought the 1st one was better

Both really nice but I liked #1 better except for the ending. Could have taken a super realistic approach with a close fade out shot of divorce papers being signed. I'll show myself out.

Plot twist, the snow was fake! Great video!

It'd be interesting to see old gear vs new gear. Example: Pro with a Canon 5D Mark ii vs Beginner with a high-end Red Camera.

Hi Parker really enjoyed your video. May I know of the name artist of the first video please

The difference between both is way more huge than Parker says it. In every aspect. Mainly the story, the shooting, the editing, the selection of music. But the beginner is showing nice promise compared to the previous videos.
I would like to see some challenge where a neutral editor is going to gather their footage on the same task. As I think the editing skills are making also huge difference. For example Parker to edit the footage of both. I am sure he will guess very fast who did the shooting, but it will be interesting to see if he will trying to give some help to his cousin.

Jakes framing, use of depth of field, and colors are all way better, he also edited to the music. The couple was also more dynamic and moved more naturally, Joshs couples posed more similar to how you would do a photograph so it wasn't as engaging for video. Both did good though!
