This guy was a big star here in Australia during the sixties just like everywhere else, and his voice sounds exactly the same 50 years later, amazing talent

He sings ‘Peace Train’ but On 21 February 1989, Yusuf Islam addressed students at Kingston Polytechnic (now Kingston University) in London about his conversion to Islam and was asked about the controversy in the Muslim world and the fatwa calling for Salman Rushdie's execution. He replied, "He must be killed. The Qur'an makes it clear – if someone defames the prophet, then he must die.

In 1989 he was interviewed on Australian television programme, ABC's ‘Geoffrey Robertson's Hypotheticals’ regarding Sir Salman Rushdie book ‘The Satanic Verses’.

Robertson: “Would you be part of that protest, Yusuf Islam, would you go to a demonstration where you knew that an effigy was going to be burned?”

Y. Islam: “I would have hoped that it'd be the real thing.”!!!

His songs are very apt given the state of the world both ecologically and politically

He's back! Im an acoustic musician who's played his songs for many years, and that distinct voice and beautiful percussive guitar sound, wow. The sound here is literally exactly what was on the record, and that isn't easy to reproduce well. He's using different old schoolmstyle pickups on the gibson to normal modern acoustics to get that cat stevens sound, and then that voice, and these songs, oh my. Perfection

It must be gratifying for Yusuf to see the younger generations (and, heck, everybody!) enjoy his music as much as ever.
