200 foot Deep sinkhole In The Woods

We lived on the North Shore of Long Island 50 years ago. They were building a nuclear power plant nearby. In order to bring the needed water to the plant, they rerouted underground streams. We were not aware of that. One day a hole appeared in the backyard. I poked at it with a rake and the rake just disappeared down the hole. Since we had young children, we partitioned off that part of the yard. Over a few weeks it got bigger, and deeper. A car could fall into it.
We eventually got a federal loan to get it filled in. Several neighbors had the same problem…..the hole was where the old underground stream used to be.

Damn, these caves are all over where you are, where I am 0 😅

thats not 200ft but only about 75 maybe 100 at best ... second IT'S NOT a sink hole but its a shoot off of a underground spring thats been filled in with mud and debris that will eventually turn into a sink hole once the sitting pressure exceeds the holding force of the debris.... if it was to start raining the mud will soften and the holding force then shifts over to the devri only which is extremely danferous because you cant accurately determine the holding force of an unseen object that has the mouth blocked off and it could let go while your standing there causing you to be sucked in ... i climbed built and maintained cell phone towers for 13 years and loved using my tackle and gear for exploring caves on my off time (wasnt much off time but when i was able ro i would gi every chance i got and i still dream about it to this day ) but yeah , thats not technically a sink hole yet but just a clogged up entrance to an underground spring ... and the rock walls tell me that itsbeen like tbis for thousands of years and the way the trees are growing around the entrance to it tells me the entrance use to be snaller and the tree that is growing bent 2 or 3 ft from the ground use to be straight up and down when it was a younger tree so the opening has grown in the last 20 years making this particular entrance extremely dangerous .... it could colapse any day now and turn into a real sink hole just from walking around the edge of it ..... be careful guys and keep a rescue line attached at all times - its more than likely not going to save your life but instead give search and rescuers an idea of where your at so your body can be retrieved SO BE CAREFUL 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Dangerous for animals to fall they should fence it instead of yelling use walkie talkie a hard hat and extra rope and extra flashlight n batteries and a reflection vest medic bag and extra body protection and never carry your flashlight by hand and use a long hard stick to test floor and never go during rain and mark on walls for exits

was surprised to see that no barrier of any kind has been erected around the hole at the surtface, i mean even a few well placed sticks stuck into the ground would be sufficient enough to warn people that pass by that something potentially dangerous is lurking nearby and its best to have all of ones senses at full awareness. this would honestly be one of my first thoughts if i came upon something like this. i would start collecting sticks and break branches off trees if necessary and try to create some sort of same perimeter around the seemingly bottomless hole. i can only imagine what it would feel like to trip and fall into this hole. the unspeakable feeling of complete loss and utter hopelessness....scary? uh ya just a bit....

You said it right when o thought it.Stay out of rock fall zone when at the bottom.A cave pack almost got me.Thank god the only thing lost was an expensive camera.Check out the book On Rope for excellent rope work and safety.A must have for any vertical caver.

I enjoy how you guys always push a passage when it looks like it doesnt go.Alot of cavers would turn back at the impossible crawl or schechy exsposed drop.Keep on keeping on.I wish I'd have someone like you guys to go with.They don't call me the mole for nothing.Cant wait to see some virgin cave in your videos.

This is not a Florida sink hole, or you wouldn't be going in. The sides would not be rock, and you definitely wouldn't be walking on the bottom

Claustrophobia and Bathophobia galore! Watching the stick and then the rope plummet into pitch-blackness at the start made me feel physically sick. And watching you guys squeeze through tight spaces made me short of breath.

But at the same time, your videos are always fascinating! I'm pleased to see that you guys are never reckless with your adventures: you take many precautions. And I'm happy you make these videos, so people like me can experience the adventure without having to be there.

Absolutely crazy. The scene begins with an average hole in the ground to an awesome landing in a beautiful cave several feet down! It’s like another world which goes on forever. I would have to set up camp with a week of supplies. 🔥
