Guys what do you think is technically better (Metering, AF) a Canon 33 oder Nikon F80?
ОтветитьGreat points ! Sold my F100 to a NY hipster for $200 more than I paid for it …. Got an N80 for $10 in the box ! Cheers coops
ОтветитьI know this was posted several years ago, but I just got back into film photography in the past year so I did something similar. I bought both a N65 and N80 for less than $100 total and put my G series Nikon glass on them. Now I have a two kits that produces excellent film images and it cost me next to nothing.
ОтветитьGosh Coops nice beard! I would love to shoot your fine art nude portrait…
ОтветитьHello everyone! I need help! I have a dilemma whether the photos from the Samyang 135mm F2.0 ED UMC lens will come out as deadly sharp on film as in the case of digital?
Thank you!
I took your advice and bought the N80 of a classmate for $100. It came with a shitty telephoto lens. However, I got lucky and found someone near me that was selling the 50mm 1.8g for only $100. So I've spent $200 on this system and got a killer system in return. I'm excited to see what this lens can do! Thank you for the advice!
ОтветитьA point taken.
ОтветитьDude. Thank you for your review. I want to try film and wanted to get EOS 3 or 1V but with 50mm Art it will cost around 1000+ doll.
i do have however 50mm 1.4 G. lens. what do you think about N75 nikon ? my buddy recommended this buuuuuut.. when i see this silver plastic i almost 😅 what to OMG!! what do you think about N75?
Ive started to go backwards and started shooting cheap lenses i like the way they render on film. I had a nikon 24-70 2.8g on my F6 a while ago and the images came out flat af so im a bit hesitant about using lenses which have been optimised for digital since they have way more elements and coatings
Ответитьwhat you tell me is that I can use Nikon f80 with sigma 35 art and extra 100? fuck genius.
ОтветитьDo you have a list of very good lenses to use for Nikon AF film cameras ?
ОтветитьGreat informative review. I have a NIKON FE, can modern lenses be used on that one?
ОтветитьI have an EF 50mm f1.8 lens for my Canon Rebel SL2. I got a Rebel G film camera now. I shot a roll and got some great pix.
ОтветитьI got a N75 Nikon film camera and I can't get it to work. F EE
ОтветитьHi Coops, excellent video mate. The only type of lens one wouldn’t want to use on 35mm film SLR’s is the digital Di lenses as using those type of lens will give you vignetting.
ОтветитьThe 21st century Nikkor “G” AF-S lenses are really great.
ОтветитьHy I recently got the Nikon F80 and it came with a Tamron 28-200 f3.8- 5.6 lens.
It also has an aperture ring on the lens.
Do you put the aperture on f22 on the lens and control the aperture with the camera although on the lens it says otherwise?
When I travel I take a Canon EOS300 body along with my DSLR, as I can mount my EF lenses, and have the option of shooting film as well as digital by only carrying one extra body. The body cost just £11 and is in immaculate condition.
ОтветитьJust scooped up a F80 on ebay. Can't wait to play with it.
ОтветитьCan't be more right. I have see shooters use the cheapest of entry level cameras and take high quality shots by using dedicated lenses.
ОтветитьWhat great advice, thank you.
ОтветитьSounds good to me, i would love to buy a new really sharp high quality lens to my analog Canon EOS 50E.
I would love a Sigma lens.
What the heck is a Nick-on??? It's been pronounced NI-KON since 1938. At least according to Nikon...
ОтветитьI very recently purchased this camera body (f80) for very little and put a af 50mm 1.8 d lens on it that I also got for very little. What a very capable bit of kit to shoot your favourite film with. These cameras of the late 90s and early 2000's were the peak of film camera design, were so capable with the matrix metering and excellent auto focus lens. The outcome, it is easier to shoot and stay focused on composition with the ability to get the highest quality images on your favourite film.
ОтветитьI found a Canon 750 with a kit lens from the trash :) Too bad it's basically a slr with functions of a pocket camera.
ОтветитьI have a Canon 300, from when I was young. So a nice lense I can use on both digital and the film camara.
ОтветитьIs there any option to mount modern lens on fully mechanical camera? Some Zeiss is about $1k, and aside from Zeiss I only recall fuji lens, but they're for aps-c
So I have no idea about affordable modern lens with aperture ring and all these f80s and similar canons are quite rare and overpriced in my region, you'll be very lucky if you find some f80 or f90 with vintage lens for $100 us, it's just ridiculous...
thanks Coops, there is a lot of info out there for adapting vintage lenses to DSLR's but not much on using modern lenses on film cameras. I think this is a podcast niche someone could pick up on :)
ОтветитьWhat we need is a digital sensor back for these film cameras ..paying for film and processing is prohibitively expensive
ОтветитьHow do adjust aperture ?
ОтветитьThis was very helpful. Thanks so much
ОтветитьAwesome video! Does the Canon L-series work on all film cameras that have the EF-mount? So from 1987 onwards?
ОтветитьLate to the party... However, say hi to my sister who lives in Perth please. Love your videos and your video has just given added life to my G and D lenses, otherwise only used on my D700. Thanks my friend. From Blighty!
ОтветитьPicked up my nikon n65 on 50% off day at my local thrift shop. Came out to be $3 even, just needed batteries. Plus the Vr on my nikon and tamron lenses functions normally with that camera which blows my mind!
ОтветитьJust like me EOS 500n using sigma 24-70
ОтветитьI have been getting better and more consistent results with range finders from 1957-1980 than my slrs with vintage/modern glass. Some of the photos with modern glass come out too much like digital after I edit. Folks think they are digital images.
ОтветитьSo true! I recently scored a clean/working N90 with a grip for $15 on eBay. I bought a Nikon N4004 body with a 50mm f1.8D lens for $35. I just listed the N4004 body for sale on eBay. Great bargain for a fantastic 35mm film kit AND it will shoot my Nikon G glass!
ОтветитьAnyone know if you can use a Canon 50mm 1.4 on a Rebel II or EOS 630?
ОтветитьFound a Nikon n65 for $1.25 plus $7.25 shipping. Paired it with my 50mm 1.8g. Can’t beat it. My photos are stunning.
ОтветитьHey coops, just wanted to say I love your vids, I appreciate the things you share. Just keep it up man. 👍👍👍 I live in Perth as well, awesome to see someone local haha
ОтветитьWhat's up with the Dan Bilzerian beard and hairdo ??
ОтветитьGreat video as usual , i have tried the sigma art 35m lens on my nikon f100 and got some really amazing results with porter 400.
Amazing channel for film shooters .
Your video hits the nail right on the head! The ability to use modern, high quality, AF lenses on these film SLRs is a great reason to buy one. I too found a Nikon F80 for a cheap price and love to use it. I even shoot my kids' sports with it! You can find any number of these more modern film SLRs and get all the advantages of your good glass, thereby doubling the utility of your lenses if you also shoot digital. The Nikon F80 in particular is a phenomenal value because it gives you about 70% of the features and feel of using a camera like an F100 for about 1/4 the price.
ОтветитьGreat video mate, I have an F80 and it's a very cool camera. Maybe the only camera you need, I use the standard 50mm f1.8 and it's wonderful. Yesterday I got the mother of all xmas presents .... a Mamiya RZ67 for $250 NZ dollars. Still in shock over that one:) Have a great xmas and happy new year.
ОтветитьYou couldn't be more right. The F80/N80 is undoubtedly the best deal around for a Nikon autofocus film SLR. Well said.
ОтветитьWhen I first partially returned to film my first camera was the EOS 5 because it would take my ef lenses, but they don’t take ef-s with either massive vignetting or totally weird stuff happening. I’ve not shot with that camera in quite a while and it is absolutely mint since the mode dial was replaced. I'm doing a film 365 project next year, I think because of its versatility I will use that camera so thank you for the prompt. A great video with brilliant advice which I often give to newbies who have never shot film.
ОтветитьJust so you know, the new Nikon 24-70 VR won’t work on any film camera, and even older digital cameras, because it’s 2.8E which means electronic aperture control, only a feature on newer digital cameras
ОтветитьJust picked up an old 300v in plastic silver complete with heaps of scrapes and scuffs for $5au, it’s comical with my L lenses on it but it makes so much sense with my nifty 50! Got it to use up 30 rolls of film I inherited, can’t wait to get the negs back - it was so satisfying getting this cheap camera from the tip shop, putting in fresh batteries and seeing it come to life and wind on a roll of film for me - it’s so cool how it winds on the entire roll at once, counting the frames as it goes
