With 1e you rolled your stats then decided what you could be the numbers you got. If you got the numbers to be a ranger you were a total bad ass.

My character is a mushroom man who is the tavern owner. His backstory is that his tavern is destroyed by bandits and he joins the party to get his revenge.

Never played 1e AD&D, but played 2e: you don't have it quite right with giving the treasure away. As it was explained in 2e (the change away from this system wasn't made until 3.x), it's not "giving it away to a worthy cause" that's the paladin. It's more of the fact that they were actually supposed to be wilderness protectors vs true adventurers. So they didn't need much treasure and would often give away more than a few gold, kept on hand in case of emergencies. They also usually wouldn't ENCOUNTER that much gold to begin with, prior to adventuring. Rangers were free to drop it in the middle of the street if they wished to.

Ive only play 5th edition d&d world of darkness I think the Genesis system whatever the official star wars table top used an the system for the fallout tabletop game
So I have no clue how 1st or any other edition works

Yesterday i joined a new campain. There is 10 players. So big group is something new to me but i am willing to try. Anyway we are missing one class. Try to guess which one 😏.

Actually, rangers nowadays are pretty good. They honestly have access to some of the best spells in the game (no, hunter's mark's not one of them, though it is pretty good) and fighting capabilities sometimes even comparable to fighters

Meanwhile, I'm just sitting back cackling at this with my 4e Ranger, who is a freaking murder buzz-saw from level 1, and can just choose to deal extra damage during their attack once per round to whatever enemy you've designated your Hunter's Quarry in that turn, no having to select a favored type of enemy from the start of the game. Who says there's never been a Ranger who didn't need an entire overhaul right after publishing to make them effective?

I dunno Drake Wardens are pretty cool, and I do like some of the hunter features
