Housing discrimination causes generational wealth gap between White and Black Americans

This is among the many reasons to justify reparations. White folks didn’t stop with slavery and Jim Crow. Pay up!

This situation will never stop, even now white people don't even like to show up in black neighborhood.

Why do white people control what happens in this situation?

trying to buy an expensive home is your way to building wealth? how about buying an expensive car too? is this their "wealth building" tool? no wonder they're perpetually broke. also, for people who are so "oppressed," they seem to be eating EXTREMELY well. talk about first world problems.

Yes, my White Brethren need to have this conversation on a large scale and view this video and others to see exactly how the wealth disparity plays out in the lives of someone in your own age group, so you can clearly how it affects the generations and the rest of peoples lives as the live and breathe. I was born in 1961 and I know first hand of the disparities of black people versus whites in this country and it doesn't feel good at all.

What I'm interested in is say we look at only white people or only black people. There are wealthy black communities in america now. As an exampl situations lets say it's maryland and baltimore area. Say a black family moved out of the baltimore projects into a nice middle class suburban home. Do they want the project communities moved next to their new nice middle class suburb, and have them go to the same school as their kids that they moved out?

that's what I see with the gentrification plan. First they sold ton of luxury middle class homes to black people from the city trying to get away from the city. Now the same builders and developers are building high density right next to where they sold the people the luxury homes like they're trying to move the rest of the black people out with the black people that moved.

It's the same with white people. Do white people who moved out the trailer park want the trailer park moved right next to them? Like if you escaped a west virginia trailer park do you want the rest of west virginia to follow you?

They eventually were able to buy somewhere, they are just using this one specific location to prove a point. Redlining was only practiced in 239 cities mostly in the liberal NE. The US is huge, 2-3-9 cities out of 19, 495 cities in the US. They are taking a little situation, one specific anecdotal situation, and blowing it up so to make gullible people believe this was a rampant program. "Actual facts"...with exceptions made for ALL the facts for narrative control.

White people founded the country and wealth is inherited and grows via businesses and investments...white people will always have the money in this country because it's where the money started and was handed down and grown over generations. There's nothing wrong with this...and you can't just take wealth from one person and give it to another without serious rights violations. If anything wealth will continue to grow toward white people because money makes money. Period.

But many of other races (especially those that practice and benefit from the discrimination) will still argue descendants of the enslaved aka Black/African Americans should not be paid reparations.

Everytime they speak on American black citizens situation in America what's all this people of color BS?? We are not people of color! Stop adding all these other groups in our struggle and unjust treatment in America! Let these other groups deal with their own struggle. Stop trying to piggyback other groups issues with our struggle! Stop using our history with America to help these other groups!!! Reparations is owed to ADOS not people of color, b1,bipoc and all these other groups that came to America on their own!😏

I'm my city my family owns an apartment complex and we don't rent to black people. Guess what, we have the lowest crime out of all of the other complexes on our side of the city, the others are raggity and very unsafe.

This is wildly disingenuous. About 91% of whites don’t get any inheritance at all and the average inheritance of the 9% that do get inheritance is about $20K. Not really the life changing money that people equate with generational wealth. On top of that, the $20K number is heavily skewed high because of the top 0.01 percent who leave their children multiple millions.

They are the ones who told the banks to lend only to white families and then created the redlining tactic, in which was done out of hatred, it was so long ago?? No it's not that long ago!!! But the impacts are still being felt today, look at the wealth gap!!!
The best way too oppress a people is to deny them opportunities in all forms of commerce and move them into undesirable areas and keep them there generationally!!!

What they don’t talk about is despite the guise that the state and lenders come off stating now is the best time and their rates couldn’t be better, they still overlook the standards they are supposed to follow, even if the rates are their best, if the costs have a disparate impact then they should be reduced. We still live in segregated times just in the absence of the smoking gun or overt racism, it is more subtle and hidden behind clever laws and stances. Hopefully FEHA and EEOC can live up to the mission Goals and enforce the laws they created and claim to support indefinitely

Our American government, corporations, and certainly too many proudly denying individuals in the dominant society 'were/are unquestionably responsible and liable for their roles they have played/are playing in economically depriving, discrimination and racism in this country against ADOS/FBAs. "SO, I'M NOT GOING TO SIT HERE AND SAY THAT I'M GOING TO DO SOMETHING THAT'S GOING TO ONLY BENEFIT BLACK PEOPLE----NOOOO!!!", declares our leadership. The truth is racial assaults, disowning culpability, and practicing benign neglect are never-ending traditions towards bereft Blacks. Now Gentrification is fast tracking to displace millions of poor Blacks from their childhood neighborhoods. Sadly, we will be back here decades later with "too bad, too sad" songs about "Where have all the Blacks gone?"

The only redemption for this is reparation’s. There is no closing a wealth gap to something that was purposely done to us. Wealth trickles down generationally and our ancestors should not have gone to their graves dirt poor due to the color of their skin.

It’s sad but it is reality in this country and trump just made it bad all over. My sister in law is going through this right now not just the regular discrimination but being. Orb into poverty and the home that’s been in the family for decade is in jeopardy of being taking out from under her by cost of houses built around her. They can’t even pay for families funerals.

This practice is played heavily in Houston Tx where my aunt lives. Her white neighbor just sold his tiny 720 sqft home for $345,000 with no driveway or garage. My aunt has a 1600 sqft home sitting on 5000 sqft of land and she only receives offers under $300,000 but the home is valued at $560,000. This discrimination tactic is rampant towards black homeowners in Texas.

That generational gap isn't anything new, it has always been there and part of the reason why one race on average has a net worth exponentially higher than the average non-white race.

There is no discrimination over housing. Blacks need to quit blaming and take accountability for their own actions. There was a black President, supreme court judge to secretary of state. Black people need to quit being the victim. Start having 2 parents, stay in school and out of criminal justice system and get a job. Can go on and on.

Wow! And any talk of reparations is met with stalling, doubletalk, etc. This country has a huge debt to pay to African Americans but racism persists in every aspect of American life.
