Thanks for the inspiration! I just modded my Dano12 with a little 59erHumbucker on the bridgePU. I love the LipSticks but theyre verythin and the bridgePU was to bright for my taste even with the prewired treblebleed..

The guitar looked beautiful in the begging of the video and then it turned out pretty ugly in the end of the video, a lot of work to make something worse.

I think I would have went with a P-90, in the bridge position. But yeah, it sounds good and yes you did a beautiful job. And think you for the information about Silvertone. I didn't know Danelectro made them. I've heard great things about that amp.

Your new pickguard kind of reminds me of the one of Schecter SH-12 (the non F-hole version), which is a distinctly Dano-style 12-string guitar, but with 2 pairs of lipsticks wired like humbuckers and a rotary selector switch.

Attention exotic and expensive "tone wood" aficionados...These guitars were played by Beck, Page and others by choice. These are made from the exotic tonewood called masonite grown in the exclusive hard wood factories of northern New Jersey.
If you are looking for that authentic and exciting warm vintage tone from the 1950s and 60s, carefully cut quarter sawed and kiln dried exotic masonite trees are what you really need to look for. Accept no substitutes.

Hey gang!

Is anyone else not getting any notifications for any new videos from this channel??

I stopped getting notifications for a couple politics-related channels that I subscribe to several mo this ago. Not getting notifications for them…you know, I don’t like it, but I get it.

But why no notifications for a guy who repairs guitars? It can’t be because he’s offensive because, I mean…Canadian,eh? Jokes aside, it sucks because these vids are the best.

For me, Danelectro guitars show that everything I thought I knew about guitar materials and construction isn't necessarily right.

I have the one without the f hole, and it has a piano like sustain incomparable to any guitar. I was thinking of getting the 6 string version but I don't want the lipstick pickup sound, I would want to have a normal single coil on it, but conversion would not be practical as a single coil is shorter than a lipstick pickup. I would love to see a 6 string danelectro with this much sustain manufactured with a regular single coil or humbucker in the bridge position for soloing.

Really loving this episode so far as I binge my way back through time. I felt compelled to comment when the Coral sitar and its pop examples were mentioned. Excellent example given! Another on the less sugary end of the bubblegum spectrum would be Steely Dan's "Do It Again", which has a pretty sick extended sitar solo by Denny Dias if memory serves. Lots of records by sweet soul hitmakers The Stylistics also have this immediately identifiable sound. Anyway, back to the video (I already need a Danelectro...) Hoping you mention Joey Spampinato at some point!

A little tip to share: if you like to level off your octave strings with the fundamental (lower) string similar to what Taylor achieves on their 12 string acoustic saddles, you can easily shim up the small sliding octave saddles using tiny squares of modeler's vinyl or credit card plastic or other wood or metal shims underneath said octave saddles on these Dano bridges. It works quite well; you just find the correct height shim you need, (less is more), wedge it in, and carefully tighten down the set-screw. Voila, your strings are now leveled at the topside.

That Dano 12 sure sounds nice Ted, especially the two pickups in series. That humbucker seems to fatten out the sound a little bit, in a good way... Be interesting to hear how it sits in a mix with a full band. One of the reasons that Danos and Ric 12s are so useful in full band mixes (in my opinion) is the nature of their pickups 'scooped EQ' tone, which stays out of the way of the other instruments and vocals, allowing them to really stand out in a mix without having to be too loud...
I also love the wide fingerboards that Danelectro 12s have; so much easier to chord on than say a Rickenbacker 12 with their crowded fingerboards. For me the ultimate electric 12 string would probably be my Dano 12 with real Ric toaster pickups, but those are as rare and pricey as hen's teeth these days. And I'm a big fan of the tone of Lipstick pickups anyway. Another good choice for a fatter alternative neck pickup on a Dano 12 is a P90!

I had the 6 string with amp in case combo , the masonite construction was hard to get around. But I used it tuned down with distortion , definitely had a demented vibe sound.

I love my Dano. DC3 black sparkle resonant as all get out. I installed a piezo under the bridge and added another volume pot on the pickguard with a separate output jack on the lower side bout. Now there are 8 different noises this thing can make or just sound swell unplugged .

As a NJ native, I unjustly derive a bit of pride in the fact that Danelectro guitars were originally manufactured in my State. I think that they're a fantastic example of post WWII U.S. innovation and ingenuity and nostalgically speaking of the day when the U.S. was a manufacturing mecca with "Made In U.S.A." noted as a hallmark of quality. They're certainly unique but I believe have become noteworthy mostly because Jimmy Page played a Danelectro ontage with Led Zeppelin initially for the "White Summer"/"Black Mountain Side" instrumental (using DADGAD tuning) medley as he was surely pursuing a practical solution for an electric guitar with acoustic characteristics. Jimmy later also used the Danelectro for "Kashmir" (again DADGAD tuning) and "In My Time Of Dying" (open A tuning). He'd noted that the Danelectro has a "ballsy" sound, apparently with an overdriven amp. The fun fact is that Danelectro guitar construction is so simple that one could practically build one in a garage. And the art deco design will forever be cool. Thank you.
