Does Colbert really have to say the old cliched 'please don't smoke any more' - its so patronizing to the guest and the viewers (subtext: listen children, Sean Penn seems cool but smoking isnt cool - dont copy Sean - he is a bad role model). What you think Sean isn't aware of the health risks? I think he can decide for himself, same as you don't need to say to your fat guests that they should really lose weight cause they are going to die from diabetes and heart disease. Newsflash: we're all going to die - most of us from the socially acceptable hidden disease of stress. Colbert is of course only saying it to protect his own job as there will be the inevitable viewer complaints. I like seeing a smoker cause thats real life and you would think smokers don't exist at all watching TV nowadays. I also like to see a celebrity not afraid to show their flaws - just like the rest of us - instead of this fake perfection we get spoon fed all the time. Its an addiction and a very hard one to break. I'm sure he has tried many times as all smokers have, but its none of your business interviewer, and you really don't need to throw it in his face.
