We had taken Tepoztlan off our list because we thought it would be more expensive than what your video said. But now it is back on the list!!
Husband is fluent in Mexican (not Spanish, there's a difference). We are excited to check it out.

I would love more information regarding living here. I want an area where there is no tourism or very minimal. Need more info as far as rent/finances/area near the mountains/cierras

I was in Tepoztlan for a couple of days 34 years ago. It was a magical visit, hosted by a friend from Mexico City very familiar with the town. Then I was young, with big dreams and no money. Now I'm an old man, ready to settle down somewhere in Mexico. I've been to many places in Mexico over the years but I never returned to Tepoztlan. After watching your fabulous video, I think it's time to go back. Who knows?

So we just visited Tepoztlán this week. Here is my take on it:
Beautiful town without corporate businesses spoiling it. Streets are ankle breakers if you are not careful. Not too many English speakers, Spanish knowledge is a must unless you just point and eat. If you have a car, it will be a wreck in 6 months due to the cobble streets. Again, a beautiful town. Some outdoor activities, for more, you need to leave town and explore. The streets in the other small surrounding pueblos are equally bad, if not worse.
Avoid during weekends unless you enjoy chaos due to the popularity of the town for visitors.
