Any Beatles album is at least $40 here in Toronto! Doesn't matter if it's wrecked unplayable and ready for the bin!

Hey Melinda, just a few years ago I picked up 12 of the Beatles US LP’s all 80’s pressings in mint condition for $300. Seems like a bargain now!

Most of us boomers will have a collection of LPs, 12 inch singles etc that no dealer will touch in its entirety, they want to cherry pick and notpay but will charge like a raging bull.

There's a chain of stores in Northern CA that sells collectables, including LPs. The bins the :LPs are stored in have metal bars running font to back, so the buyer has to get help to inspect or buy the product. Prices are mainly $40 - $75. About 40 years ago I paid $45 for an OOP dual LP album, and it eventually came out on CDs for less than $20. No more.

South African here👋🏼🇿🇦 I am just getting into the hobby, currently busy with full research before starting in 2025. It is very unnerving to see the prices in my country. Didn't think it could get that inflated in the US or even the Uk. It's crazy. I just saw a video of someone who paid 490 dollars for a Harry Styles album. 😂

Vinyl is coming back and going mainstream as a collectible. Just like everything else (Comics, movies, games, toys, anime, manga) it's only a matter of time before the greedy people ruin it for everyone else. Just look at the last 10 years.

I much prefer Cds, but have some vinyl I kept from 60-90s. I gave a cartload of vinyl thru Craigslist as I replaced vinyl with CDs., including all the Petty LPs you show here & more.
The guy who took them said a dealer offered him $500 for all . Me : "D'oh ! No idea ! " . That was before vinyl became popular again.
A few years ago at a record show in Buena Park, CA, 2 vendors had the Beatles first album gatefold on Vee-Jay. It looks like a teen fanzine. One vendor wanted $250, another $25.
I bought the $25 copy.
I still have Beatles & Kiss on Laser Disc. Laser Discs are not worth much, pennies on the dollar.

Uninformed people can charge what ever they want. But nothing will sell for insane prices, and sooner or later they will get the message when nothing moves. I have been selling/collecting
the Beatles for 45 years, and have seen it all.

I live in Gainesville, and I think I have been to this store a couple of times, if it is called The Outpost. My daughter used to live in the house directly behind it, and they definitely have high prices on some of their records. I actually talked to the owner about the price of at least one record I was looking at, and showed her what they were selling for on Discogs. She is a nice lady, but really didn't know about the pricing of records, as the art was really her area of expertise. I even offered to help organize her records for her, as they were not in any kind of order, but my daughter moved, and I haven't been to Micanopy since. Also, I think every store near Gainesville inflates the prices of Tom Petty records because of being his hometown, and that's a shame. Anyway, I love your channel, and can relate to many things you discuss on your videos. You do a great job! Merry Christmas!!!

I completely agree 100% that some vintage shops are completely unaware what "fair" prices should be for a lot of items. Because vinyl is "hot" at the moment, some sellers feel that they can get super top dollar for something common (like your $3 BG Live album, which I have and love too)!
As you mentioned in your video, condition is everything! When I was a kid and collected coins, I understood all about condition. You can have a 1907 Indian Head penny that can be worth $3 or $800!! Another example: the Rolling Stones Now! LP you saw at that store would be worth $45 in VG+/VG+ condition, meaning very little wear around the spine and the vinyl should not have any noticeable marks, unlike the one they had with all the splits.
I recently saw a Beatles Rarities LP sealed with a promo hole like yours. The store wanted $80 for it, which I guess it could be a fair price for a sealed copy, but I ended up passing on it.
Merry Christmas Melinda to you and your hubby and look forward to more of your videos in 2025!

They don't have knowledge... If they did, they'd open up a shop and not have some else watch their stock. If you're gonna sell records, you have to sell records... you can't have stock rotting away in a half-built drafty barn.

It’s not only cost of vinyl, substandard pressing of new vinyl, 180g vinyl excepted, is rife, my last four purchases of new vinyl has had to be returned to shop, as they had invisible faults and were warped and did not play properly, I have 150 old albums and none of them have jumps and clicks -Tony, Aberdeen x

I was flipping through the bins at an antique store, rolling my eyes at the prices. The owner asked me if I needed a turntable, I walked out with a minty Technics 1210 mk 2 for 300 CAD. He said it was too new for his store! My good fortune is that he doesn.t check values!

I have dropped how many I buy due to high prices, yet I have had vinyl since my first one in 1974, then the resurgence a few years ago made me want to invest in a quality set up of rega/ marantz/ bowers & wilkins. Suddenly it's getting expensive so they get no more money out of me as I buy less. It works as my local vinyl shop now only opens 3 days similar to how it faded in the earlier years before it died. Being older I don't care for the greedy vinyl industry as old enough to have 99% of what I want on vinyl. Plus I retired this year to e joy my already decent collection.

just a note to everyone. if you have a vintage turntable with an expensive stylus stay away from used vinyl. unless you know who used them and what they were played on, one rotation on a very bad scratch can severely damage an expensive stylus.

The average RRP of a new vinyl record in 1965 Australia was $5.50 Today, with inflation that same record would cost about $55.00
Vinyl is a money making business today.

Dear Melinda, the problem of the markets also exists here in Italy and for the absurd prices that there once were, perhaps now there are fewer and if you find them you go somewhere else but if you find yourself in a remote place.... Perhaps the global market is giving us a hand also thanks to Discogs. Just take an average of the prices and the game is done (Leaving aside the exaggerations for which I don't know who they sell them to). Then there are the problems of the new vinyl reissues and their high prices and some of low quality.

A year or so ago I bought a pile of records at a thrift shop for about $10. The best record in the group was Elvis Presley's 1955 "Mystery Train." I figured that, overall, I paid seventeen CENTS for it. I've amassed a few hundred albums over the last few years, paying around $1.50 apiece probably on average, at thrift shops and such. I've seen absurd prices too, but you don't have to be a millionaire -- yet -- to build an interesting collection. But you're only going to be able to purchase a fraction of what you see. All this said, there are A LOT of people hunting in thrift shops, mainly for rock n' roll.

Yeah, another Australian here. Had an experience when I walked into record store the other day that I had never been to before. Their selection of records wasn't terrible and mostly in line with other dedicated record shop prices. While I was browising however I stumbled upon the rarities bin. First thing that stood out was that their rare records were in a milk crate on a shorter table closer to the floor. They were out in the open for people to flip through and not on their wall with the other higher priced records. Also weird given some of the price tags in that bin. I started flipping through it and starting thinking to myself that these records were not all that rare either, maybe due to the shops location they were?

Then I found a copy of Black Sabbath's self titled priced at $200 in that bin. I figured this must be a UK first press to command that sort of price. As far as I could tell it was not and that was the final nail in the coffin for me in terms of spending any money there because I wholeheartedly disagreed with the prices in that bin.
