There are many cheaper options available now. Any thoughts on those in general?
ОтветитьAre these track squares compatible with the Milescraft Track saw guide?
ОтветитьAppreciate this video help. Really helpful I getting one of those 👍👍
ОтветитьI have the TSO square, and guides, and wouldn't want to use my track saw without them. With the Woodpeckers variety, there is a way for you to be able to use it on both ends of your work piece, but it does require some minor modification. Unscrew the tab that balances the square on your work piece, and move it to the opposite side of the square. Next, mark, drill and tap new mounting holes, and you have just added new possibilities. Will this void your warranty??? I don't know, I've never owned Woodpeckers square, so I cannot answer that.
ОтветитьBenchdogs in uk, exporting to europe needs custom fees as well, since brexit, so the fees are not around just for uk customers. If you live outside of uk in europe, and order from uk, you pay custom vat charges as well, ie since brexit, and uk left the eu.
ОтветитьGreat video thank you, I'm in the UK, and have some Benchdogs products, have found them very precise and well made can't recommend them enough. Thanks again for a very informative video.
ОтветитьAs of Nov 2023, the Woodpeckers track square is now $329.99 (no case), $439.99 (with case)
ОтветитьI picked up the TSO with my parallel guides and really like it. It has been working very well for me and zero complaints about the system. The Woodpeckers is nice, but I just don't see a need for anything but 90 degree cuts for my use.
I did, however, buy an Amazon Chinese knock-off that is smaller (~10x3", <$30), is very similar to the Bench Dogs design and stays on my short 39" Makita rail as a quick grab for cuts too big for my miter saw, yet too small to haul to the table saw. It actually works very well as well... perfectly 90 degrees.
Anyone used the festool guide rail? Seen they make one with angles - anyone got a comparison for that one?
ОтветитьYou really should make test cuts for squareness. It’s the only thing that matters.
ОтветитьThanks!😅
ОтветитьThem benchdogs must cost a fair bit once sent across the pond, right now it's roughly about £120 + taxes
ОтветитьHey Jason, how thick is the TSO on the part that rests under the track? I got some fastcap track hangers (the green and black ones you have covered for walls and garage doors?), I am wondering whether I can keep the TSO GRS 16 PE V2 attached to my 55 inch track while mounted to the wall (I mounted the hangers green latch down, so the tracks do not rest on the splinter guard). I am hoping there will be enough clearance in the gap behind the track to keep it assembled while on the wall!
Edit: Also, the woodpeckers is surprisingly inexpensive for their usual pricing scheme + its extra features in that big mitre plate. I went with the TSO though, I like their system - got the MTR-X for my MFT3 (only have one for now), the replacement hinge brackets they sell with the metal slop stop, the guide rail square is on the way & I got the Bigfoot on the way with that as well. I also ordered their ultimate dogs kit to get started with chamfer dogs + the chamfer bit/reamer you suggested to have at hand. I will be getting their parallel guides next.
I'm new to rail squares, so what's the point of the "triangle" side of the TSO? Is it just a reference 45° and 90° corner?
ОтветитьYou covered them well but not how accurate they are.
ОтветитьThere sre now cheap chinese made knock offs of all of these on amazon. I got a knock off of the woodpecker multiangle one and a knockoff of the benchdogs one for less than the cost of any you show.
Attached, both are as close to 90 degress as i can measure.
Great video thanks for sharing
ОтветитьSo the TSO is a direct copy of the Festool so why choose that over it? Seems a no brainer to me. Unless Festool copied TSO?
ОтветитьI noticed that the Benchdogs UK pushes with two cams instead pulling with a clamp. This turns the much shorter than full width T-slot rail into the reference surface.
Will this compromise its accuracy?
As several have stated, the Benchdogs UK still seems to have excellent 90 deg. accuracy so maybe this is not an issue.
woodpecker always seems too expensive
ОтветитьGood video. You said that the Woodpeckers version cannot be used at the far end of the rail but it is not clear why. Can you elaborate?
ОтветитьTwo years later– guess what? Everything went up, except the British Pound, but the DSL shipping did go up! Rockler has some Bench Dogs products, but not the track square.
ОтветитьWhat about the Festool FS-WA? Is is around 130 $ and seems to have the same functionality.
ОтветитьWhy didn't you compare the Makita 196664-7 as well?
ОтветитьRecently purchased the Festool TS55 track saw. Looking for a square guide to make my crosscuts that much faster. Thank you for this very informative review! It was well thought out and put together. My only additional question would be accuracy...perhaps a 5 cut method test for each to show their degree of accuracy. Did you find they were all dead on or was there a little slop (say 1/32" at 24") on any of them?
ОтветитьI have a Woodpeckers track square and have used it exclusively for breaking down plywood. Mine does NOT make any angle cuts, it is a 90 degree model only. It is presumably lighter than the angle version but I do not make angle cuts from a break down perspective. I would make those after breaking everything down and do so on my Accurate Angle sled. I do really like the TSO guide rails and for that wish I had bought the TSO angle guide. I have not purchased guide rails yet but hard to justify the cost of the Woodpeckers when TSO is such a great option. Anyone want to trade a TSO square for my Woodpeckers square?
ОтветитьGood job!
ОтветитьNo Mafell/Bosch? Darn.
ОтветитьI was actually surprised the woodpeckers didn’t cost as much as the track saw. I love their stuff but they are a little over the top on the pricing of most of their tools. I’m willing to pay twice as much for a tool that’s twice as good, but I won’t pay four times.
Ответить"I'm worried about scratching my track saw track"
Bruh... really? Do these people exist?
It looks to me that, with maybe exception of the Woodpeckers, they're all overpriced.
ОтветитьAccording to TSO's web site it also works with Kreg's track as well. That said, I don't own it to confirm.
ОтветитьI've got the TSO Square that you're reviewing. Really shouldn't be called a square. I'd like it a lot better if it would give me a square cut but it doesn't and never has. I've got that worthless thing hanging on the wall I should just throw it away.
ОтветитьI just catch this video now. But when I look up price, TSO cost $189. Festool has same exact design (don’t know who’s original anymore) cost $133. Just the Festool name will eat TSO’s lunch.
ОтветитьOne thing I would have liked to see was a test of how square each was. My InstaRail is definitely not square (probably off by 1/16th over 24") and looking at the tool nut site I'm not alone. Not sure if there was just a bad batch, but it's tough spending that money and discovering the issue after the return period.
ОтветитьI realize that this video was aired a year ago but I just watched it. TSO now makes the GRS-16 PE K Guide Rail Square for the Kreg Track Saw. This Square is compatible with all the accessories as the other Guide Rail Squares TSO makes… Just thought you should know (which you probably already do)
ОтветитьDo you have a video presenting how you attach the Festool machines on the wall behind you? (Domino and jigsaw etc.)
ОтветитьI'm looking at sys3 Ms 137 fs/2-set- accessory kit item# 577157/ model 577157 , I just ordered the TS 55 with 55" track so the track and 577157 will be put on my wish list
ОтветитьThat was a great vid and so helpful! Thank you!!
ОтветитьI have a Grizzly Tools Track saw. Does anyone out there know of a compatible square for them?
ОтветитьEvery single one is wildly overpriced. Insanity.
ОтветитьGreat video Jason. Have you done an update for the new Festool square that recently came out?
Also do you have a parallel guide video out yet? Thanks.
Ron
Warning!! This video assumes you know what bench dogs are.
ОтветитьGreat review. Any thoughts of updating this video to include the new Festool Angle Stop?
ОтветитьFor large sheet goods and if true square is needed. The best is to just to use a 3-4-5 triangle.
This is because the square's short leg is too short. For a 4ft cut, the short leg should be close to 3ft
What about accuracy? Accuracy should be paramount.
ОтветитьI have the Benchdogs UK track square and love the ease of taking on/off. I have the w/p adjustable but use it less often. UK track saw square helps me use with MFT and not need an festool MF3 setup or kreg
