Achieving HIV Epidemic Control

The USAID Adolescents and Children HIV Incidence Reduction, Empowerment and Virus Elimination project, or ACHIEVE, is a five-year global effort to reach and sustain HIV epidemic control among pregnant and breastfeeding women, adolescents, infants and children. ACHIEVE currently works in Burundi, Dominican Republic, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia. The project is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development and implemented by a Pact-led consortium of top global HIV/AIDS partners, including Jhpiego, Palladium, No Means No Worldwide and WI-HER.

The ACHIEVE consortium works with USAID Missions, national governments and existing response partners to identify gaps in HIV prevention and treatment programming among target populations. Using best practices and expertise along with innovations, the project is addressing critical gaps to meet country-specific epidemic control goals. As part of its strategy, ACHIEVE is working to prevent and respond to gender-based violence and to empower youth to own their own future. To ensure that the consortium’s efforts are sustainable, ACHIEVE is developing the capacity of local organizations to directly receive USAID funding in line with PEPFAR’s 70/30 localization goal and USAID’s Journey to Self-Reliance. By optimizing the response to pediatric AIDS toward epidemic control in some of the highest burden areas around the world, ACHIEVE is making a marked, lasting difference in the global fight against HIV and AIDS.
