They all looked good for a hour of time put in. Clearly Unreal seems the best suited for quickly prototyping a FPS, but I liked how Godot's came out as well.
ОтветитьCould you do horror games next? :D
It would be fun I think!
godot is soo barebone I guess it took the most work out of these...
ОтветитьGood work everyone for 1 hour, you knocked it out of the park! As much as i'm bias for unity, I have to admit, Bram's was the clear winner to me! 👀
ОтветитьCan y'all do this again with the same people except make a 2D game? Unreal has a lot of prebuilt things for FPS. It has an unfair advantage out of the box.
ОтветитьI think Godot is the clear winner here. He got a playable game running rather quickly. Unreal Engine comes in at a close 2nd, but you just need more time to fix the jank and the quirks. And I am surprised the guy on Unity was able to do anything. What engine is best for first person shooters? Unreal Engine; simply because it was designed specifically for that.
Ответитьthere is no question Unreal engine got the best graphics hands down.
however the one that is actually plays like a game is Godot...it's easily the tutorial level in an FPS game.
great work to all the contenders! loving this kind of video...more please!
Unreal crashes? I was called a bad worker, because I criticized Unreal Engine for its jank lol. I am taking a break from Unreal Engine because I am tired of the jank. I switched to Unreal Engine from Godot, because I got tired of dealing with Godot's jank; also, because I suck at math, I wanted a more visual approach to make VFX. I am switching back to Godot, since it has been improving; but it lacks any good visual effects out of the box. Even the glow post processing system is old and sux.
ОтветитьAfter the stunt Unity pulled a while back I don't think many people too eager to use the engine
ОтветитьThe best engine is the Unreal Engine. But in this video Godot won :D
Ответитьunreal engine is the best
ОтветитьHappy seeing my Mentors in the comment section.
ОтветитьAm i the only one who would have... Gone "Advanced Locomotion system" ? 🤣
ОтветитьI think that Gorka must be the winner
Ответитьi like godot the best. unreal is impressive as always, and unity was pretty lacking to be honest
ОтветитьGodot and UE5 take the win.
I'm surprised that this video is not getting the popularity it deserves 😥 This is some quality content for sure.
GORKA THE LEGEND
ОтветитьAlthought it's impressive how quickly he could implement functional enemies in Unreal, I think the Godot version feels more like an actual game to me. It has a clear objective, feedback and level progression. Also the floating gun just looks better than the wonky half animated arms from the other versions
Of course this is just my opinion from watching (not even playing). Objectively all 3 devs did a great job with what they got
For me Godot won, it's the one that looks the most fun to play and is visually appealing
ОтветитьUnreal is, by far, the easiest one to create a game. It may not perform the best out of the box, but it is incredible easy how you can just "code" an entire game with just blueprints and not a single line of C++. It will be awful for optimizations, but if it is a simple game, that doesnt require more than 60 fps, you are set. It is a great engine to start your first project and their contract is really friendly towards indie devs. I may be really wrong, but this is my experience with having fun coding on Unreal.
ОтветитьI'm Unreal fan, but.....I could see only 1 game - Godot version. Other 2 just tech demo, without gameplay features.
ОтветитьHad a blast! 1 hour is so little time 😭😭 Great job Gorka and Stephen!
Ответитьi learned 3 of them and for me godot is better at 2D, and unreal is better at 3D. unity is a meh since it takes a long time to create project and debugging (i'm using ssd btw), and when u tried the several asset store u always got bunch of errors, including got bsod when i tried to change the IDE to vscode, weird huh
ОтветитьGodot game is the winner for me, nice aesthetic, has gameplay mechanics, so nice at all. good job all of you!
ОтветитьIt was only me, or the only game was the gosot one? The other didn't had a “end condition”
ОтветитьGodot did it for me , had the best gameplay and looks
Ответитьall 3 were good but i like the one in godot the most very simplistic and fun
ОтветитьThat was so fun and amazing! Hats off to all the contestants and great work showcasing what the 3 engines can do in an hour.
I do have to say that UE5 is the clear winner and Gorka is a wizard in UE5. Now lets see a 2D platformer game competition hahaha!
Graphics wise Unreal won, Although functionality and gameplay wise I'd say godot won, Unity I'd say just lost xD
Ответитьtbh the only thing im accomplishing in one hour is a basic movement script
Ответить"Havn't you paid for the Faster Download Upgrade" Rick stop giving Unity anymore money hungry ideas.
Ответитьit's not the tools, it's the artist.
ОтветитьHonestly, and definitely no bias, I gotta give Gorka props with Unreal Engine. Starting with the FPS template, he made the rest of the code on the spot, without relying on any past code or too much asset store.
Godot side got too much premade from prior codes, and Unity side still relies on asset store stuff, as usual.
godot
ОтветитьGorka did the most from scratch work and had the most features. Gorka won by a mile.
ОтветитьGodot is winner for me. Unreal game has the best assets, but it is basically the FPS template, if 10 ppl are asked to create FPS in one hour in Unreal, all will look pretty much the same..
Ответитьbevy when ?
ОтветитьWinning points IMO:
UE: Graphics , VFX and Characters details
Godot: Nice environment and Game mechanics with Scoring system
Unity: Got the job done with a nice stylized pixelated characters and trees
TBH I was expecting UE to be better because of it's presets and blueprint and faster workflow to gain minimum requirements in least time, BUT the Godot really surprised me! I was following Godot videos since unity incident and this Open source game engine made pretty good FPS with nice mechanics!
My favorite is Unity, because I use Unity, haha. But one hour is too little time to make an objective assessment. Bram did a level with good mechanics, Gorka takes andvantage on Untreal's high fidelity assets, Steph bet on artistic environment. All did great job!
ОтветитьThe "excuse" that he said saying that he mainly works in 2d, and does not know how to use the 3d editor actually does make this look way more impressive!
ОтветитьAwesome. Love unity!
Anyway, A tip for new game devs: DO NOT Compare yourself with these gentlemen! They already have done similar projects before many times.
Godot one was the best tho.
ОтветитьComming from a Unity background but been learning Unreal, it's stuff like this that just shows how great Unreal is. Sorry Unity.
Not played with Godot, looks promising but very early days compared to the Unreal and Unity.
Although I'm mostly use to C# I do like Unreal's Blueprint for knocking stuff out. Just not great when it comes to source control.
I’m actually proud how far all three of us got in one hour! Not too shabby!
ОтветитьNice video, good job to all of them. The Unreal is best-looking and smoother, but the Godot version is pretty good, considering the time.
ОтветитьUnreal for better graphics, blueprint. Godot for fast performance and simplicity good for 2D and indie style 3D games. Unity tho, it's getting slower with every update version plus for some reason, I can't log in unless I have vpn on. And losing trust on how they handle things with EULA is minus point. Better to know unreal and godot than unity for those who are starting for sure.
ОтветитьWhich engine you should use always depends on the developer(s) and their specific project, and I'm still sticking with Unity. Starting a new FPS project today actually.
ОтветитьUnreal for sure ❤
ОтветитьIt's hard to give a winner as they all did surprisingly well in only 1 hour. I guess Unreal looked the best and had some enemy AI, but unity and godot were pretty good too.
Ответить
