Earlier today, Friday, April 12, 2024, Princess Oluchukwu Owowoh became the first Nigerian female officer cadet to graduate from Sandhurst. She was one of the 135 Officer Cadets commissioning as Army Officers at the Sovereign's Parade at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in Camberley, Surrey.
Established in 1947, following the merger of the Royal Military Academy (founded 1741) and the Royal Military College (founded 1801), and officially known as the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, it is the British Army's initial officer training centre. All British Army officers, as well as other men and women from overseas, are trained at the academy.
However, unlike some other national military academies such as West Point in the United States, the École spéciale militaire de Saint-Cyr in France, the Royal Military College of Canada in Canada, the Pakistan Military Academy in Pakistan, the Nigerian Defence Academy in Nigeria or the Australian Defence Force Academy in Australia, Sandhurst is not a university.
