My dad knew her in her later years. He was her postman. Every time he delivered to her, he had a tea and chat. I asked why and he said "Because she was really, really lonely. She drank all the time and had no friends because she didn't know if people wanted to really get to know HER or just because she was famous."
Ответитьwhat's so funny about this is I've seen it played out in real life over the years, people make all sorts of assumptions about someone who seems rough around the edges and scatty, but then they turn out to be really knowledgeable on all sorts of random things, sometimes they fit the ADHD profile
ОтветитьWhat talent. Beryl Reid and Hugh Paddick. I wish we had performers that good today.
ОтветитьWatching November 2023
ОтветитьI knew a woman who was a stripper in san francisco who was as well read as this character.
ОтветитьNot just a great comedy actress, but brilliant as Connie Sachs in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy
ОтветитьShe opened our village garden fete in the early 60's what a character !
ОтветитьI've just realised that both Monty Python AND the two Ronnie stole material from Beryl Reid.
ОтветитьHow many superlatives can one write about the late, great Beryl Reid? RIP Ms Reid...you deserve to as you are still entertaining us.
ОтветитьHugh Paddick is brilliant as her foil here, as he is in Beryl's Spanish maid sketch. He was also hilarious as Julian with Kenneth Williams as Sandy in Round the Horne. A comic genius who I am proud to have discovered came from my home town of Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire. Hope he's got a plaque!
ОтветитьWonderful lady! Always enjoyed her appearances on Blankety Blank when she always had a little man under the table with her!!
ОтветитьMoulmein! Oh the memories - Kyaik-than-lan Hpaya.
ОтветитьSo glad I found this, love Beryl. I don't know how they kept a straight face, she is hilarious.
ОтветитьAny resemblance to 'one' static, nonstatic, living, or dead is coincidental. Discretion and and discernment may be advised.
ОтветитьAppitize, lol. The lady was a genius.
Ответитьso much talent
ОтветитьLegend
ОтветитьBeryl Reid always said that she based the characters she played on the shoes she wore
ОтветитьI think I'm like the old lady !😆
ОтветитьGlorious!
ОтветитьThe gentlemen on the left did he play the director in THE KILLING OF SISTER GEORGE?
ОтветитьYears later, perhaps inspired by this, the Two Ronnies did a crossword sketch, somewhat in reverse of this scene. Brilliant Beryl.
ОтветитьTrain seats look very comfortable!
ОтветитьComplete genius. I adored Beryl Reid.

ОтветитьFantastic memories
ОтветитьMarvellous!
ОтветитьHaving know Beryl Reid as a comedian she was i9 yards of age when I was born 1936.
ОтветитьI'll never get to bed at this rate! I'll blame Patricia for starting me off on this series!
ОтветитьMonty Python wasn't as original as I thought.
ОтветитьPolyhymnia!
ОтветитьGood ol' Beryl.. the Brummie accent kept slipping through though!
ОтветитьThe less known best actress in the world !
