My dad knew her in her later years. He was her postman. Every time he delivered to her, he had a tea and chat. I asked why and he said "Because she was really, really lonely. She drank all the time and had no friends because she didn't know if people wanted to really get to know HER or just because she was famous."

what's so funny about this is I've seen it played out in real life over the years, people make all sorts of assumptions about someone who seems rough around the edges and scatty, but then they turn out to be really knowledgeable on all sorts of random things, sometimes they fit the ADHD profile

What talent. Beryl Reid and Hugh Paddick. I wish we had performers that good today.

I knew a woman who was a stripper in san francisco who was as well read as this character.

Not just a great comedy actress, but brilliant as Connie Sachs in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy

She opened our village garden fete in the early 60's what a character !

I've just realised that both Monty Python AND the two Ronnie stole material from Beryl Reid.

How many superlatives can one write about the late, great Beryl Reid? RIP Ms Reid...you deserve to as you are still entertaining us.

Hugh Paddick is brilliant as her foil here, as he is in Beryl's Spanish maid sketch. He was also hilarious as Julian with Kenneth Williams as Sandy in Round the Horne. A comic genius who I am proud to have discovered came from my home town of Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire. Hope he's got a plaque!

Wonderful lady! Always enjoyed her appearances on Blankety Blank when she always had a little man under the table with her!!
