Thanks for that very interesting talk, Shefali. Among educated Goans, be they Hindu, Christian, atheist or another persuasion, this is not totally unknown. The past 40 yrs has given us, via the internet etc, access to vast amounts of information, some of it uncomfortable but true, neverthless. As you rightly quoted 'the truth will set you free'. I think you should do a similar video in Konkani.

There are two questions that have arisen for me from your talk: 1) is there an intrinsic weakness within Hinduism (a slipery concept at best) that makes it vulnerable to zealous external attack? Does it have inbuilt fisures, like the caste system, which have not addressed the fundamental question of 'the rights of man'? Having been 'desecrated' by conversion there is no easy route back into the faith, is there?
2) Secondly, Hindus and Christians must be vigilant against the weaponisation of this knowledge of the Portuguese excesses, for political ends. After all, forcibly converted Goans were at the receiving end of this violence in all it's forms and should this information be abused they'll get it in the neck yet again!! That sounds like a double wammy through no fault of their own. Already we can see the seeds of disharmony being sown. 😢

I always tried to analize History without criticism and place the facts according to times, to eras. Otherwise, history seems like a never ending dark story. As a Portuguese , I give an example : Some 2 500 years ago, the Celtic and the Lusitanos tribes lived in peace, in Iberia, in perfect harmony, for centurie. Yes many wrong, terrible things have been done by the invadors domination, but Portugal benefited the higher tecnologies in general those invaders brought. The same in India, when the Portuguese arrived to Goa, Damão, Diu - remember that at that time it wasn`t created a State of India, yet - they had higher technologies, ocenic navigation, weapons, etc. Since the Sumerians, some seven thousand years ago, History has been made by invasions after invasions, all over the world. History is what it is , nothing else. You can also speak about the beneficts the Portuguese brought to that part of the world . Analize not criticise, please.
