Couple corrections at the end, King Cobra was defunct in 2000, and Sunshine Turnpike is still in operation as Snoopy 500. Besides that good show, the story how Paramount got it and sold it was very interesting.

I have many childhood memories at Kings Island. My very first roller coaster was the Vortex! Still one of my favorite cannot wait to make memories with my children at Kings Island.

Cedar Point is a better park but Kings Island is my favorite. I’m hoping 2020 project will be mind blowing like the other major Cedar Fair Parks. Look at the Cedar Fair’s patter. In 2009 KI had Diamondback the next year Kings Dominion had I-305.2014 KI build Banshee the next year Carowinds had Fury 325. In 2017,KI had Mystic Timbers The next year CP had Steal Vengeance. On on Cedar Fair, KI Is a top 5 successful regional park and deserves a powerful coaster.

Thank you so much for a trip down memory lane. I LOVE King’s Island. Definitely worth a one to two day visit, especially if you’re going to explore the water park. I’m excited to see what the future holds for this historic gem. So many firsts and risks taken, some paid off some not. They were definitely visionary’s in the Amusement Park industry. Thank you again for the lovely job.

Grew up about 5 miles from this park, I feel so blessed to have had my childhood at Kings Island! Still get a pass every other year and go with my husband. We had sooooo many amazing “free” summer dates there (we would go with no phones and no money, no backpacks— we’d just drink complimentary water and have the time of our lives). As a kid, on slow summer weekdays or rainy days, the attendants would oftentimes let you stay on a ride and just ride over and over and over again. So fun. I learned a lot from this video! So thank you! Kings Island I will love you forever! The Vortex will definitely be missed. But it got more and more rough each year. Super cool and retro, but it was sinking into the ground and had to go. Orion is a little controversial but, not everything can be a record breaker. And yes, I had the ‘pleasure’ of riding SOB. It was terrifying! And painful. But badass!

I remember when both the cast of The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family did their respective half hour sitcoms from K.I. not long after it opened. Maybe it was a PR stunt, to get attendance up, so that female fans of David Cassady would flock to the park. In the late 1980s, a woman was killed on a ride, and was later found out that consumption of alcoholic beverages was partly to blame.

I love videos like this. I was a musician at KI in a cheesy 60’s beach-themed show called “Surf’s Up” in 1989 at the outdoor theatre next to the Eiffel Tower. I was also in a show called “Summer Rhythms” on the stage at the end of the fountains in 1992. If anybody has any video of those shows I would love to see it!!

AMAZING video and tribute to my old home park. I absolutely love this place, probably my favorite place on Earth- and you captured it very well. I loved the tribute towards the end given to rides of the past, really great stuff!

I went to King's Island many years while growing up. That and the now defunct small amusement park which was named Americana in the years I was going. It was a much smaller, much cheaper park.

The fact that Coney Island was never an Island doesn't help anyone become less confused about Coney Island in Cincinnati being any less of an Island than Coney Island at Luna Beach Brooklyn NY when both parks aren't even Islands. (That was very confusing for my mother who was born in 1942 and raised in NYC.) Yet I love his passion for getting King's Island started in the early 70s! I LOVE this documentary!

Gary Wachs said the flood of '64 was the biggest flood at Coney Island Cincinnati at 66.6'. My question is this: 66.6' above what?
Next question: How did Coney Island and the Taft broadcasting company become related?
Most importantly: When where most of the interviews with the people that started King's Islands used in this video actually recorded?
Now that Orion is open, I think my favourite coaster there is Diamondback due to it's flojector airime and ride duration. But I've never been there, let alone ridden a B&M hyper whether it be one of the 4 junior hypers or three over 300', but I have been to Cedar Point in late May 2018 and SFMM in late November 2019.
Thanks for this historical, educational and entertaining video; I can't wait to finally visit King's Island; a park I've wanted to visit for over 40 years now.

In 1995 Cedar Fair lp opened Mantis at CedarPoint. The original name was supposed to be Banshee, but the top executives thought it would not fit in with the "family theme". Funny how several years later they didn't have a problem.

I rode the son of beast in the early 2000s. My wife works for Procter and Gamble and they close the park for employees. It's called the p&g day. Anyway, my brother-in-law and myself rode the son of beast. It was pretty rough and something just didn't feel right. Never went on it again.

Kings island is my home park! My parents aren’t huge roller coaster enthusiasts so I went for the first time in august last season (2020) with my older siblings and their significant others (I’m 13, and their ages range between 21-23) but anyways it has always been something I have looked forward to going to one day so for my birthday 2 weeks ago (May 8th) my brother got me a gold pass and I’m finally living out my dream! I was always so embarassed and jelaous when all my friends would go and I had to stay home and not know what it was like. It honestly almost makes it more special now, since I wasn’t able to go when I was younger. I get to cherish it a lot more now. Alright I’m just ranting at this point but the park is awesome and I am happy to finally be living out my dream. This docu is amazing thx for this!

I know I'm late to the comment section, but I live in Indianapolis and have been going to Kings Island since I was 4yrs old. My first time to KI couldn't be any more different then what it is currently. My first trip, KI had 3 coasters: The Beast, The Racer( forwards and backwards), and the Screamin Demon. Hanna Barbara land was there and they even had a zoo that you rode a air conditioned train to see the animals and attractions. I remember when the original Bat was where Vortex would eventually replace the bat and now the Vortex is gone. I LOVED the Son of Beast and had the privilege to ride when the loop was part of the ride . FireHawk is no gone, replaced with the Orion, giga. Banshee, Diamondback are class acts....but for anyone who hasn't been to Kings Island or who hasn't had the chance to experience The Beast at night....WOW!!! Still the best coaster experience there ever was and will be

Boy does this bring back some memories my parents had brought my brother, myself and a couple of other of my parents friends here back late July of 1972 we stayed at a hotel called the Capitol hotel. A lot different now then back then it was fun but I still preferred Ceder Point. Went back there in 2005 with my kids only to find it quite rundown. Sad

I was there in 1972, the" RACER" was something else (I was 11 years old at the time). I worked there as a rides electrician from 1999 to 2001. the "COBRA" was cut up for scrap in 2001, I was the one who cut the power to the ride, so demolition of the ride could get underway. I did notice several of the "ORIGINAL" crew, that worked there, and had come from "OLD CONEY ISLAND" those guys were very knowledgeable, and had hearts of "GOLD", they were great to work with!!!. they kept the park up and running!!!!!. THE MECHANICS would be out there at 5 A.M. checking in the rides, rain or shine, they were dedicated in the work that they did, and made sure that the rides were safe to run for the day!!! a real "HATS OFF TO THOSE GUYS" many are retired/ deceased now!!!!

I agree with vortex. That being said when it came out it was truly an amazing ride. Just didn’t age well at all
