My uncle, Cyrus V Kean, was drafted in December 1968 and was designated to the 1st infantry division. He went to Fort Jackson and then to Fort Gordon, then to Vietnam. My grandmother went to church every single day, prayed Cy would return unharmed. While Cy made it back physically unharmed, he was mentally destroyed. In 2009 he put on his uniform, took a bottle of lithium and drowned himself in the Delaware River. The war obliterated his mind. An unfortunate ending.
ОтветитьDuring the Vietnam War there were a lot case of US ground troops commit a lot of attrocities toward many South Vietnamese villagers during their "Search and Destroy Mission." Many were never reported and a lot was being covered up by US General William Childs Westmoreland. There were many US ground troops saw the attrocities done by their fellow American troops and did nothing. While other participate. Vietnamese peoples were the victim of the Vietnam War. Even though many Vietnamese didn't start the War and didn't ask for it. That was the decision by the American peoples who voted for Democrats President JF Kennedy and LB Johnson as their Commander in Chief for their country. And Democrats President Truman who brought Communist support to Vietnam by allowing and supporting France to reclaim Vietnam as their colony. A country who value their freedom and independence from England. Deny other country of their own. America was never a democracy country. America is a Republic.
Ответить"He proudly served his country for 27 years in the U.S. Army, including two years of duty in Vietnam as a decorated Infantry Commander in the Big Red One, 1st Infantry Division..."
ОтветитьMy uncle was a lieutenant colonel in the Big Red One, including Vietnam. He made it back and retired honorably, but died young. He got a bronze 🥉 star, but I never learned the reason why. Anybody know where I can find out ?

Ответитьdid any viewers here serve with company A, 2nd battalion, 1st infantry division? my grandfather, jack hord, didn’t share much about his 20 years in the army so i’m trying to do my own research to properly honor his memory (he passed away in 2017). he also spent extensive time at fort riley and fort gordon. thanks for reading!
ОтветитьWhat seems incredible is the fact that the US was defeated by Vietnam. What? Did the US lose the war against Nam? OMG! Against a poor country, undeveloped, malnourished, without Navy, without Air Force, NO Marines, Green Berets, SEALs, Rangers, Delta Force, USMC, Rambos nor Chuck Norris. Defeated by a country of peasants without strategic plans, no B-59 Bombers, no PT-Boats, no Northrop F-5 "Freedom Fighter", nor Atomic Submarines. Without Aircraft Carriers, NO Continental Missiles, nor Tanks, Choppters, AR-15, Gatlin Machines’, Flamethrowers, Napalm, Agent Orange. NADA! And to top it off, defeated by an army of teenagers who had no shoes: WITHOUT SHOES!!! Army that fought with bamboo sticks!!! Charlie Kicked Our Asses and even invaded our Embassy. Jeezzz!!! Here is the Duty, Courage and Chanting of Heroism of the US Army. This is the True Story of our Country. This is the History that is already written in the US Books. And the History that was written in Afghanistan is made with the same ink.

ОтветитьI was there , 1965 - 67. Agent orange is killing me. I was hit 7 times and made it home, a cripple for life.
ОтветитьI was in & around Vietnam from January 1967 to August 1970. I was lucky enough to work my way into some unique billet’s. I was assigned to Navy Support units operating from the DMZ & a place called Cau Viet to Phu Bai, Da Nang, Cam Ranh Bay & Saigon. I saw some of the best in Vietnam, &, of course, too much of the absolute worst of war. I became a better person because of all these experiences. And, I realized WAR is the absolute worst way to resolve conflict. But if one side of a disagreement refuses to discuss, negotiate or compromise, the result is WAR, because someone didn’t try hard enough.
