I think Hannibal made a mistake invading Rome, I know it’s easy to say this knowing what we know today, but even then he and his father both knew that the political figures in Carthage were incompetent, I mean they left to Iberia in order to gain strength and power without relying on the senate alone. I just think Hannibal should have done what Caesar did and take full control, I mean the military forces were loyal to Hannibal not the senate, and the people supported Hannibal, he could have easily staged a take over and ceased power had he not be so hellbent on revenge.
