Shame that there is no flash. Deal breaker, I like to use fill flash sometimes, carrying a 'gun just in case is not on.

Mine lasted almost a half year. I bought both the lenses for it. I live in Bangkok where it is hot and humid. I use my camera three or four times a week for street photography. Everything is fine except it will not turn on. The humidity killed it. My Nikon d7000 series cameras did very well in Bangkok. I am looking for a D7200 or D7500 now. You should probably avoid the RP if you use your camera often.

Do you recommend changing to this from a 6D? Have EF 24-70 f4 IS and EF 70-200 f4 IS - would these just feel too heavy on this body? Looking for better AF.

I’m so greatful for your reviews and your channel. I’ve purchased a Canon RP, sold it and bought it back. I couldn’t be happier. RF 24-105 4-7.1 and 50 1.8 are great too.

someone coned the term 'plastic dog plop'(you :). Herbert Kepler 'moulded bean can'.
really, to last, you need a strong metal camera body, I thnk. pay extra to get it, buy mint pre-owned to get it, unlss you must have rand new.
as an industry person, you should promote this, imo.a light weight is useless, if camera craps out. I bet your old film minolta srt still works.

Ken do you still recommend the Canon RP in 2022 going into 2023? What lens do you suggest I start with? (Mainly family photos, portraits, vacation). Lastly would you mind attaching links to you suggestions.

I just bought a Canon EOS RP with RF16mm f2.8 Thanks to your reviews.

I’m thinking of getting a telephoto lens for hiking and some landscape. Recently I have a friend offers me his used 70-200 f4 L IS for roughly USD490 while a new RF 100-400 F5.6-8 is available at USD590 at my place.

I wonder which 1 is more worthy and suitable for hiking and landscape if I use my 1.4 or 2.0 teleconverter from my old system on 70-200 f4

I’m currently also using 24-70 f2.8 for daily uses and 70-200 f2.8 for my kids and family.

I’m not a professional, just an enthusiast

Thank you

Thanks for the review. I was considering upgrading my older D7000 to this one. I liked the price and the features. Should I move forward with this plan or go to another mirrorless model? I keep seeing reviews that bash this. I plan on getting the 24-105 lens because of that range. I'm happy with that range ability.

I bought the RP with the 35 RF and I LOVE it. Super versatile, compact, lightweight, reliable AF and great image quality. I think the RP is super underrated and has a excellent value. Even if I have 2x R5 with great RF lenses for weddings/events, I easily prefer the RP for personal use (vacation, family, hobby)!

Hi Ken. Just wanted to ask you a q. Can canon rf L lense work on RP? Is it worth to buy one or should I upgrade the body first? I really wanted to get into the portrait side of the photography... but wondering if rf L lenses would work on my RP body.Thank you very much.

I bought my first serious camera in 1983, a Contax 137 MA with a 50mm and a 35mm Zeiss lenses from B&H. I still have the lenses and they are awesome but the body died because it's electronic and I got it damp on a trip to northern Vancouver Island. Keep up the great work! I justt sent a $5.00 donation to Ken.

Great review Ken. My budget isn't large, so I'm planning on buying one of these at the end of 2022. A good, solid full frame DSLR is all I need - bells and whistles are great if you're a pro and need them, but I'm not so this will be awesome.

This camera is so underrated it’s kind of ridiculous. I was looking for a second body to pair with my Mark IV for events, weddings and portrait shoots. And there were 5D Mark III’s in the $6-700 range with over 100,000 on the shutter on eBay. Then I saw an RP for $750 with 2 extra batteries and less than 6000 shutter, and was like “Is this camera that bad that it’s in the same price point as a 10 year old DSLR with a hundred thousand clicks under its belt?”

So I picked it up along with the RF 85 F2 as I’ve been looking for an 85 and figured I’d start my RF glass collection.

I’m impressed. I mean, the ease of customization and weight are just incredible. And all my images have looked sharp as well. I’d definitely prefer two card slots and no exposed sensor, and I’m sure the dynamic range isn’t quite as good as my Mark IV, but for a second camera that’s super light for events that is full frame and cost me $750 practically new? I can live with that.

Great review Ken. Nice to see you on YT finally. Love your sunny attitude...I'm considering one of these to compliment my 70D. I was going to go for a used 7DMkII but I think full frame and mirrorless is the way to go. I can always get a 1.4 teleconverter to get extra reach on my 400mm 5.6 L

Hey Ken. Thanks a lot for all the hard work.
My spouse and I have been using Canon forever. We currently use an SL1 and a 6D. (oh, we also have a Sony RX100M3... cause it's soooo useful for us in high altitude or tough conditions).
We use mostly EF lenses. 40mm pancake, 50mm, 24-70 f/4, 70-300 II, 16-35 f/4, Samyang 14mm f/2.8... and some EF-S
I'm considering the RP as a replacement of the 100D (lightweight)
My questions:
Should we consider any RF lens or what we have is ok?
Is that actually going to replace the 6D?

Thank you for this review. I went to both Sony and Canon stores yesterday. Played around with both cameras. The canon RP is a lot lighter than the A7III. Feels a lot more comfortable to hold, the menus are more intuitive. And I have to say that the EVF and the LCD are super clear. I just got sold my Panasonic G7, so compared to that camera, the canon is on a whole different level.

Great review, Ken! One question. You mention in the "what's bad' part of your review that the RP does not have a closed shutter. Other than that it looks like a good transition camera from dslr to mirrorless for those of us who have used Canon dslrs for years and loved them. I have read that the open sensor is a concern, in terms of dust collecting on it, especially when changing lenses and the sensor is completely exposed to that big hole in the front. Is sensor dust going to be a problem with this camera? Would appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks!

Nikon Z5 is WAY BETTER than this one: IBIS, better IQ, better construction, better weather sealed, faster, 1/8000s, better video, more battery life, 2 cards slots, ,better dynamic range, better hight ISO, better RAW output file, better EVF ( by far ), better screen, better usb connection and Nikon color science: how much better a camera could be? Is this a bad camera: NO, but Nikon is worlds ahead.

i have a question for anyone able to answer.. just bought the canon rp with adaptor. i have some ef-s and ef lenses, i will not use the ef-s lenses on the rp i don't like it. i have some prime lenses, there's 2 i was wondering if replacing them with the rf lenses would be a good idea or a loss of money. i have the ef 50mm 1.4 usm lens and was wondering if the rf 50mm stm is better?? should i spent 250$ CND and buy it or keep my ef 1,4? same question but for the ef 85mm 1.8 usm? also what affordable rf or ef lens for versatility 24-240mm or an EF cheaper but as good lens?

I just bought an RP. I shoot motorsports mostly, for which I use a 7D2, 5D3 and 5D4, but thought the RP might work as a travel camera alongside or instead of my LX100 MKI.

It's too early to talk about my experience and views of the RP, but I like the fact that it's so capable and flexible (on paper at least) yet relatively small and light, especially on days when Arthur Itis is visiting (I'm 65). What I'm hoping for is that Canon will develop a truly lightweight zoom in the 24-105 range, but with a faster aperture at the long end than the RF24-10f f/4-7.1 offers. I would be OK with f/5.6 so long as they can figure out a way to do that without making the thing significantly heavier.

I reckon the RP body and a lighter 24-105 f/4.0 - 5.6 would be a great travel combo. I can only wish!
