Hmmmm. With engineering like that it is perhaps not surprising that there are many reports of Chinese Battery Electric Vehicles exhibiting unintended rapid release of phlogiston.

Here I was wondering how it intellegently protected LEDs if you accidently connected the cathode to the positive. What was I thinking?

I found the exact same POS on Ebay in the US. It is advertised as a Backlight Tester. It does have 115-120 voltage cord, but it looks half-assed like your specimen. The seller wants $16.15 BUT free shipping! I have an isolation transformer and variac on my bench in my basement workshop. That was a great entertaining video! 😉

accept no substitutions for shoddy LED tester products... works exactly like package said. I'm having to use the melted probes on the tester that was caused by "an incident." You know who would get a bang out of a product like this? ElectroBoom... he should "Rectify" this!

wow i thought it would be 2Wires just dangling in a metal case
tho seeing the led using a live wire seems to remind me of how old Xmas nano Glass lights would work from poundland

'green wire with glass lights in the chain plugged into the AC Socket & when u had them turned on and
pulled one of the lights out in the string it would turn off or turn half of them off,
just imagine id clean them with a damp cloth

messed with them in 2005 but leant a year later it was dangerous for glass xmas lights just by looking at the wiring
and a tv show about safety on a somewhat over scary tv show cbbc.

So I've never gotten shoddy internet electronics, but when I was little my family took me to a swapmeet where I got an ok looking jacket. One day I went to put it on and something scratched me - I took the jacket off and saw there was something yellowish poking through the fabric.
Bird bone, complete with feathers and such still attached. It was a sweatshop jacket from China, so rather than fill with stuffing or down: dead bird pieces just sort of broken down and shoved in to fill space.
(found out years later that this is a common practice in counterfeit goods).

I think thier idea was to use the plugs for a foot trigger or something like that. Still unacceptably dangerous to have banana plugs that carry mains voltage like that. I also love the led plug is flapping around in the breeze just trying to knick the insulation on the bare aluminum hole and make the entire case live. That's especially egregious since it's something that's going to constantly be wiggling from plugging in leds and removing them.

The sleeves blocking the probes from their power sockets actually a safety feature. It's like a medicine bottle cap and it keeps babies from being able to plug in the probes.

And the aluminum ungrounded case is a nice touch. It shows the relentless pursuit of premium ownership experience for the buyer. It's no cheap plastic.

The replaceable LED is breath of fresh air because it shows a commitment to user repairable and customizable electronics. You can replace it with a rainbow led to make it stylish and more attractive to children.

Using a 3 way switch and simplistic circuitry limits the resources needed and environmental impact of building it.

It is good to see progress in Chinese eBay electronics.

I like how it puts out 27 mA, which is already pretty dangerous but still less than the 30mA rating of a typical RCD. Of course all that goes out the window if one of the probes is pretty much live.

It's a metal box that conveniently rectifies the mains to better kill you with. A pro-fibrillator.

I find it bizarre that it has a full-wave rectifier, but then needs an LED inserted into a dangling, un-grommetted wire to energize the probes. Nothing about this makes any sense at all. We see a lot of dangerous crap coming from China, but this might be the deadliest one yet.

Years ago in Oz we had a certain brand fan sold. These things were often deadly. Our then energy regulator came up with the slogan "Kill it before it kills you". I suggest this slogan be disinterred. That thing is horrible. and sold in a way to bypass local regs.

On the other (not yet electrocuted) hand, it looks like a quite nice enclosure, with hand pre-drilled holes. Maybe replace the contents with something less dangerous, like spiders.
