I’ve never been the biggest fan of cats but my husband is a cat lady.
We’ve been together 11 years and in that time have had 5 cats come into our lives in different ways. 2 were strays that showed up at our house, one we adopted from the shelter, they’ve all passed away.
We have two now. One was a street kitten, an orange boy. And he is the sweetest and friendliest little guy.
For the last year we’ve had one cat and one dog, but that changed just yesterday.
A family member passed away leaving a sweet old cat behind. So we went and picked her up yesterday and today we’re introducing her to our other cat and the dog.
I’m still more of a dog lover, but I’ve gotten more of an appreciation for cats than I did before.

When I was a little kid, there was a house a few blocks away that had a 12 ft fence in the back yard, 3 elderly women, and 50+ cats! Their backyard was a litter box! Hot august day, pee-U!!!

People are so cruel and irresponsible, just throwing out their cats. Despicable excuses for humans-SHAME ON THEM. If you can’t afford them or have the ability to meet their needs, not just your wants, don’t get a pet. That includes regular vet visits. If your circumstances change, find them a new home.

I think some of these cats are stolen rather than "rescued"

Imagine calling someone defective because they like their peace. Meanwhile you're over there screaming at eachother on Christmas. Now that, is defective. I'd rather be alone then deal with bullshit.

There is nothing wrong with being a cat lady - we should do what gives us joy in life.

However, if the primary relationship in someone's life is with a "person" who can't talk to them, will never be able to truly understand their problems etc, then it is less than ideal. It's a good substitute if you don't and can't get emotional support elsewhere.

Your cat never judges you? Of course it doesn't, because your cat doesn't know your problems and struggles. You can't get helpful feedback from a cat.

So what I'm trying to say is, that if you love cats and look after them, wonderful! If you think cats can replace human relationships and be equally healthy, then no. Unless of course you have emotional difficulties that makes normal human relationships difficult for you - which still means it's the exception and not the rule.

I think most people know this, but there are still people who act like humans don't really need other humans. Or a cat can replace a loving family in equal measure. They can't.

Creeped me out! I don't like cats at all, I'm a dog person. These poor lonely women were compensating to the ultimate level for their lack of relationships with other people. Very sad.

I also know some crazy cat men (and crazy cat women). (One dude is actually letting them mate and reproduce in his house). I work in retail and have lots of older regulars. The crazy cat people seem to be older in general. And the theme I've seen with my crazy cat people is that they're lonely but have given up on other humans due to lots of adverse experience.

the lady rescuing cats is a saint she should see if she can become an official rescue to get funding!

How do these women who collect random cats outside know, that they have no home. Here in Germany it is totally normal that the most cats live inside and outside and for security reasons they do not wear collars, but most ate chiped. I don't wanna know how many cats she collected actually are missed somewhere and guardians think, thru cat got run over, but in actuallity now is prisoner of a cat lady and can't get home.
