I was born in 1970 had a crush on Brooke Shields when I was a kid , never seen the movie pretty baby till recently,.takes a lot to shock me but ,..what the hell? people get arrested for having pictures of their own children in the tub , but there's a seen where's she's totally naked, and they still show this movie? if a 11 year old kid takes a picture of his 11 year old girlfriend topless, it's child porn,...but if evil Hollywood exploits a child ,..it's artistic? messed up 🥺

We all first saw Brooke when we were 16 back in the mid 70's......'Blue Lagoon'.. Pretty Baby was such a great movie showing us all the life and times in New Orleans....

You talk about this as in TODAYS viewpoint. Those times were different. Yes what all her mom did, was questioned even back in those days. But to say she was exploited and disturbing is simply viewing that in todays society and standards. This is an ethics and moral question, in which that is decided by society.

For instance her being photographed for PBoy. It is greatly disturbing, and sadly it was even back in those days. Just was not realized or understand how much child pornography and paedophiles were. That was all hush hush in those days and not really talked about. So yes I can understand where someone says it is disturbing or that it should have been disturbing. But the reality is in those days, it was not uncommon to take pics of your child in all states of dress or undress. It was just natural (as being naked really SHOULD be and not this sexual crap that it is today). Sadly yes not even has the same thoughts, again as I said before not even back in those days as there were and likely always has been those bad people that have unnatural thoughts of kids. And this brings up my point. Having or seeing a kid in their natural state by itself is not disturbing at all. It is society and those bad people that have turned it into being something more than it actually is. No longer being a person in their birthday suit, into being something that is more than that and is disturbing for the only reason that is being viewed sexually when that might not have been the case at all, and especially not the intent of it. Ok being in PBoy is a horrible example, considering the context and main purpose that later became to be known as. While that was always going to be a part of that magazine, it did originally start off to be more than just that. It did attempt to have good articles in it as well ... just that most did not care about that. But it was nothing to see pics of kids naked in those days at all. Like having a bath, or being washed in a sink, or just simply having fun in water. Context is what should matter. Sadly no matter what the context, some will always just view it simply as sexual. An aspect that people in those days just simply did not really get, or at least did not think about much. In those days it was pretty common for any parent to bath not only their kid, but quite often their friends kid at the same time, and it was also common to get a pic of that. It was nothing and done all the time. Nothing sinister happened the vast majority of time (because we are only talking about those few bad apples that spoil for it everyone) ... but today OMG. Especially if it was a father to do that, which again although the mom normally did, fathers did as well. Today society has in essence let those few bad apples dictate how we think and how we are going to react. This is what I find disturbing, instead of addressing it and trying to fix it, we just simply make it bad for everyone regardless of the context. Everyone must be weary and can not act normal, lest one might possibly be accused of something. Sad.

The only one who really exploited Brooke, was her mom. And that is not the only example of such. While I can not say it was highly common in those days (at least for entertainment purposes), it was not uncommon either. Several mom's for instance really pushed their kids for many things, like beauty pageants, etc. And yes those were talked about when such parents did that, including talking about how Brooke mom did. Yet in those days while it was not as bad as in previous generations, but kids just simply were exploited for many things, in particular work. That comes from a time of basic survival back in the days where kids were needed to help out. Today that is seen as exploiting, and back in those days it was starting to be seen by society as exploitative to a degree, just that society had not quite reached that point yet. It was a transitional period. And extreme examples such as Brooke's really brought this to the forefront of people thinking. People started to talk about such things and question such things. Without such extreme examples, it is possible society might not be at the point it is today. Which brings up...

Pretty Baby. You pretty much left out the entire context of that movie. I wonder why...... An innocent kissing an adult was not that big of deal either. Again it is the context. Nothing is meant by it other than acting. Kids like to pretend like they are an adult anyway. I have seen many boys innocently kiss an adult female. And yet nothing is said about that. Again I wonder why.....

Look I get and even to a degree fully agree with a lot you say. But it is clearly obvious that you are looking at this with today society viewpoints and are trying to apply this to a different time and era. In order to fully understand, you need to put yourself in their shoes. In this case, put yourself into the time period this actually took place. Brooke was more ok with this back in those days, because for most people it simply was not as big of an issue. Yes there were some that questioned it, but they were by far the minority. Society in those days, it was ok. So of course she was ok with it then. It was not until much later, after society had changed that Brooke started expressing concerns about this. Yet she still says she would not have done anything different. This pretty much says it all. No it was not as you claim that she was denial. Oh possibly when she was younger, but as she became an adult, nope just not possible. She knew what all she had done and what all people were saying about her. You can hear this in several interviews she had done later as adult, you can not be in denial while at the same time talking and admitting about it all. Contradictory, either you know it, or you are in denial. Not both. She never felt exploited, and if she had felt exploited then she simply would not have done it or would have expressed that. She was onboard with it all. You can only exploit someone if they are hesitant about it, and yet are made to do it anyway. IF Brooke had expressed concerns about it when she was young, for all we know her mom might not have pushed ... or at least might not have pushed as hard knowing it was making her daughter unhappy. Again we do not personally know Brooke, and especially did not personally know Brooke back when she was doing this.

You also say tons of men had pic's of her posted. While that might have been the case, that was not common. It was common for boys, she was a pinup for mostly boys. And it was mostly boys that had a crush on her. Brooke was not even one of the most popular pinups anyway. That would be like Bo Derek, Loni Anderson, Farah Fawcet, Cheryl Tiegs, etc.

The more I hear about Hugh heffner and playboy the more I realise what a disgusting brand it is.

I've been on the planet for 71-years.
