Identity of Islam is thru its believers way of life. Islam is to a way of life, muslim are people who believe in God and submit to his teaching. As far as architecture, clothing and cultures, Islam allow for a wide range of variety. There is no such thing as islamic dome..it is just so happens that most culture with muslim in them.

For someone who did so much research you quoted a ayah that does not exist in the Quran, there is no ayah about 72 virgins. The funny reality is when the muslims in the autonomous region did not have the severe government restrictions there were not those severe issues of terrorism. There are hundreds of cultures in china, this is just a Hanification that will cause more hatred from the people. The muslims who study there religion never turn to terrorism but if limit the religious education to that of shady sources and not their local imams you allow the perfect environment of hatred and terrorism

You know for sure, main problem in this kind of situations - is west would love to exploit these kind of situation in any where in the world. So for practicality's sake most people would probably agree with your point of view.

I am pretty sure that Muslims are way more diverse than being limited to only Arabic characteristics.


It's the same BS I as a Yugoslavian (without a country) from the state Croatia (let's get real - never will be a country) hear from western white people about all Muslims having to wear some kind of headscarf. Dear Ms. I do not agree with your allusion on the Quran that the Quran states that "Jihad is the Holy War and that it is beïng rewarded by Allah in heaven by 72 virgins". This is an idea that occurs by orientalists who has never read the Quran nor understand it. There is no such verse in the Quran and I dare you to come with the verse in Arabic!
First of all Jihad has not the meaning of war in the Quran it has the meaning of "To STRIVE", to strive in your lifetime to be a good man/woman is Jihad, To strive in your life to learn is Jihad, to strive in your life to help the needy is Jihad, To strive in your life to keep your soul from bad things (alcohol, gambling, bad habits, adultery-fornication, .....) is jihad ! To strive on the battlefield to defend yourself and your families from an oppressor is jihad! And the story about 72 virgins is not in the Quran, we muslim are not going to paradise for lust as you state it, cz that is not our main goal. The reason why a muslim is striving on earth, is to please Allah (our and your only God who created us) in order to meet Him , the Exalted One, in paradise, so we are doing jihad for Allah ....and the most, most most beautiful moment in Aljannah (paradise) is, when Allah will unveil Himself to His servants to see Him who He really is! That is our main goal, not 72 virgins and other things, they are worthless when you compare them to one second blink to the our Beautifull Creator. I hope I have rectified your allusion which is not correct by the way. With regards.

I appreciate the hard work out into this insightful video and view of China derived from your first-person experiences in China that are not accessible to foreign audiences! Just wanted to add my 2 cents on the issue:
- as other commenters have commented, the Muslim community is not homogenous in China. The Hui Muslims, Uighur Muslims and other Muslims all have their own distinct identities. Therefore, as you've alluded to, could the Muslim community in Guangzhou may be different from those in Qinghai/Xinjiang and have different cultural and ethnic identities. Which could explain the difference in opinion of the Guangzhou Muslims versus those from Qinghai.
- When the imam compared China to a big family, I can't help but think of the Chinese saying: 齐家治国平天下, where national order comes after the family order is achieved, ie the nation is an extension of the family, thus giving rise to this paternalistic political culture. This explains why it seems so intuitive to Chinese citizens but downright horrifying to Western audiences believing in individual liberties.
Thank you for your video, it made me think deeper about this issue. Above is just my opinion, feel free to disagree with me!

It's not necessary that, a mosque should looks like a Arab's architecture.
In chaina it can be in Chinese architecture,
After It's a prayer place, it’s not how it’s look like,

Allah should obey the laws of the nations of the world. So wherever the word Allah is written, the constitution of the country must be placed. So that when someone kowtows to Allah, he also kowtows to the Constitution. Allah must be made to realize that he is not greater than the law. Come on, not everybody is happy with everything, if you asked everybody in the world they have something to say or wanted to say about their government or their people or their own religion, so therefore this segment is kind of pointless.

Actually, Islam is simple, a mosque is a place for worship, it doesn't need a magnificent building. The dome comes from Byzantine culture, the minaret comes from Persian culture, while the crescent moon symbol comes from the Ottomans, without that all mosques are still mosques as long as there are people praying in them. it would be better if it could blend in with the local architecture

Everywhere I go in China, I see mosques. As an American, I was surprised by the ubiquitousness. I was told by western media that China doesn’t allow religion to flourish.

While I agree that Mosque do not necessarily have to look with Islamic/Middle eastern dome. And it can even be in Chinese archtecture. At least have some wording in both Arabic and Chinese to iindicate it as a Mosque. Afterall prayers are sooken in Arabic.

I live in Canada where in a liberal democratic society, one has the freedom to practice one's religion freely. I find your video confusing in its explanation as i am also a 'Han' Chinese though raised in a western society, why is it necessary to assimilate the Hui within the broader 'China society'. The minority culture diversity is part of China's heritage, the only unnatural element in Chinese society is the Chinese Communist Party where its roots can be trace back to the Russian Leninist doctrine, which is part of European history. The subjugation of China's ethnic communities is a CCP policy and shouldn't be looked upon as the Han over taking other's identity.

Truly is heartbreaking. The masjid dome looked magnificent amd now it looks bland and ... Such a pity.

also there's NOWHERE mentioned in the quraan that someone gets idk how many virgins for djihad,djihad in arabic is descipline it can mean so many things and killing people isn't one of them, as muslims we're only allowed to be on war if we were attacked first and even then it is HARAM to even cut a tree, harm or kill the eldelry, the children ot women unless for self defense,i appreciate your efforts making this video but please research well
