As a historian I agree completely with those historians. The place that the United States has gotten to itself now there is no safe place for advocates who are fighting against the Injustice of the system to remain within the borders of that country.

I am so beyond sick of the "stay and fight, you cowards" argument. It makes NO sense.

1. If you're a member of at least one of the targeted demographics, choosing to stay in a fascist nation when you could otherwise leave is patently insane on its face. When you've been dehumanized in the eyes of the state, *you can not change the course of events because the state has already decided that your voice - and life - mean nothing*. And in the event that things turn completely sideways, all you'd have accomplished is adding to the regime's death toll.

2. There's a difference between running and never looking back and making a strategic retreat to fight back from a safer place. And that's what most people who leave will be doing. They'd be no good to anyone if they ended up imprisoned or killed.

3. Many people who are fleeing have families to protect. For them, staying and fighting might just lead to their loved ones' demise. And it's wrong to demand that somebody make that kind of choice.

4. Finally, unless you're willing to condemn people who escaped the Holocaust by leaving before they were seized by the Nazis, just shut the ** up forever. Okay? Okay.
