My first three fingers EXCEPT my ponk reaches the top of the E string, i literally have to force my finger up and its annoying. No matter where my thumb is or how straight my fingers are

Picked up a bass for the first time today at the age of 68..! I'm left handed, so things are the other way around for me, but strangely enough it seems easier to look at a right handed teacher as it's a mirror image, does that make sense..? The problem I'm having though is I only have small hands, and I can't get the pinky finger of my fretting (right for me) hand to the E string, it just won't reach. Any ideas..?

during the exercise It was pretty much impossible to put all of my fingers through 9 10 11 12 and it was putting a lot of strain on my wrist. Any tips for that?

I didn't think I could use my pinky, I have short fingers... but after a while it clicked and I could use it. I'm happy to know that with practice I can do it. Thanks a lot for your helpful videos.

What do I do if my pinky is really really short 😂

I got my first bass a couple months ago and I'm trying to learn it now. As a brass player, it feels like I'm in a completely different world, and this video helped. I'm still struggling trying to use all of my fingers on the fret board but I'll keep practicing 😂

how hard should i press with my fretting fingers please? should the string be pinned all the way to the neck or not?

i’ve recently started to learn bass and I don’t understand one thing. When I’m playing, I can’t keep my hand completely parallel to the frets, because my pinky is way too short to reach the strings. With that the rest of my fingers can’t stay on the frets because i have to reach so far with my pinky. Is there a way to fix this or is it just that my pinky is too short??

I'm a guitar player that's just started on bass. One thing I notice is that I pretty much have to have these videos on the good speakers because of the low frecuencies lol. I'm surprised at how bad I am on the bass at the moment considering I've played guitar for about 15 years. Very underestimated instrument.

Is gripping the neck all that bad? I’m finding it impossible to use my fretting hand without gripping especially on the lower notes

I’m 13 and picked up the bass around summer this year. I found this really useful! However, I have somewhat small hands (assuming that’s due to my age) and have trouble in reaching my pinky to the E string. Is there a way around this or will it change with practice/time?

Edit: I checked out some of your other videos and I think I’m getting there. Not perfect but definitely an improvement.

I got my first bass (a Japanese copy of the 1969 Fender Sunburst Jazz Bass that's all broken and fucked up but I got it off a guy for $50 and at least it plays) four days ago because I want to be able to play in my punk rock band (I'm also the lyricist). I'm twenty and I never ever thought I'd play an instrument as long as I live, but with help from your videos I've been making pretty solid progress practicing every day and loving it! It's one of the few creative, constructive things I can do with my concussion the way it is!

I think my pinky is too short. It feels awkward and sort of painful to try to reach the note. Im following along and the instructions are so clear and easy to follow…I guess my hands are just too dumb to do this

how do i stop pressing with my thumb? every time i use my pinky to stretch to a far fret, I'm forced to press with my thumb and it ends up hurting
