If only this was a true story. Dude was extorting people. Making them pay hundreds of dollars of else he would feed them to the militias. I'm an American who lived in Rwandan for 3 years and thus movie is considered complete fantasy in Rwanda. The hotel manager actually had to flee after the genocide because of his actions. Ended up in Houston, Texas as a cab driver and happened to have some film makers one night as his fare and told his version of events. Now it is good the movie exposes what happened and when I would tell people I live in Rwanda they almost always knew it from "oh, hotel Rwanda" but the story unfortunately isn't accurate. The guy extorted and exploited those people.

This movie is a great awakening of the wrongdoings we are capable of and the humanity that lives within. What a brave man.

How terrifying, to witness mass killings abruptly and begin preparing for battle in hopes to protect those still alive and in your hotel. Forever a hero!

I love my fellow Africans 😢😢

Just finished this movie for a high school assignment. As much as this helped me understand how awful the genocide really was, this was one of the most traumatizing movies I’ve ever watched and it makes me tear up everytime I think about it. Its truly horrible how this was based on a actual story, my heart goes out to those that didn’t make it during the era.

This was just the beginning. 30 years on and all this violence has been thrown into neighbouring DRC Congo 🇨🇩 where 10 millions more people have died as a consequence of direct actions by those who supposedly “ended” the genocide.
Even the hero of this movie (Don Cheadle’s character) who saved over a thousand lives has been abducted by the Rwandan government.
Everything that Rwandan officials say is a lie and the truth is always the opposite.
