There are some factual inaccuracies in this video. First of all, there was nothing shady about Canelo's first title shot at 154, he was the silver champ and the highest ranked challenger for the WBC world title and mandatory to the winner of Pac-Margarito (not Charlo who was still fighting club fighters then). While waiting on the Pac-Margarito fight to play out, Canelo decided to challenge for a title at welterweight, but two of the welterweight champs at the time Senchenko and Zavec both rejected offers so he fought Hatton as a stay busy. When Pac defeated Margarito, he announced he was vacating rather than defending against Canelo, and because Canelo-Hatton was coming up the WBC decided to put the vacant title in play on the condition that the winner faces the next highest WBC ranked challenger available, Ryan Rhodes which Canelo ended up doing to solidify his status.

Also, the word robbery doesn't belong in the same sentence as the Lara fight. It was competitive but Canelo was pushing the action and hammering Lara's body with power shots that forced the Cuban to concede exchanges throughout. Even though Lara was an elite fighter at his absolute peak, it was 23yo Canelo who made the better adjustments picking up his defense and timing as the fight went along whereas Lara became increasingly tentative and quick to concede while limiting himself more to arm punches.

The narrator refers to fights like Angulo, Kirkland and Lara as catchweight fights because they were at 155 when those were non title fights which are often a pound above the division limit. As a matter of fact, those three fighters had far more experience fighting above 154 than Canelo.

The narrator also suggests that Sulaiman was the one pulling strings to secure big fights for him like Cotto, but that fight happened because Canelo went above and beyond by giving Cotto the A side guarantee even though Canelo was the A side draw by then. And it was Cotto who selected the weight for that fight, not Canelo. Side note: there were talks of the two fighting years prior but Cotto was upset by Trout so Canelo faced him instead

The narrator also mentions Canelo received a short penalty for "doping" and says Canelo should have apologized, but all the evidence pointed to his innocence including the negative follicle test. It wouldn't even be a violation today under WADA which sets the Olympic standard. As for GGG, he lost high ground on the issue by going out of his way to hire the most notorious criminal PED dealer in US sports, Victor Conte, whose claim to fame was juicing athletes and cheating tests including in the boxing world.

Later he downplays the risk of Canelo jumping up two divisions to face Kovalev but Kovalev had gotten back on track reclaiming his belt and entered the fight as the number two ranked champion in the division coming off beating two undefeated top 10 LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHTS. Keep in mind, the only other ex welterweight to become champ at 175 was 6'1 Thomas Hearns. The reality is, even if he fought a top 10 ranked light heavy it would be a big undertaking let alone an experienced champ with a piston jab, timing and KO power in both fists.


To top it off, he suggests Bivol was a safe opponent when it was the most difficult style matchup combined with the leap in weight. Simply put it was the toughest fight he could possibly take and the type of risk A side fighters don't take willingly-- and Canelo took it despite dealing with injuty. The commentator later questions why his next opponent was Jermell when he stepped in after his brother Jermall declined the fight. Jermell who's undisputed is also more proven and active than Jermall who has never been in a title unification and hasn't faced a champ in nearly 7 years since he was at 154.


It seems like every positive comment in this video is followed by a negative one-- often of a nitpicking nature and some incorrect. And it doesn't mention the historic nature of some of his victories or his overall career accomplishments. Here's a list of a few:

Holds 19 wins over world champions (more than any fighter today). He's the second youngest champ in the history of the 154 division at age 20. The youngest fighter to unify and claim Ring titles in that division at age 22. The 5th fighter in history to claim Ring belts in 3 divisions and the ONLY fighter in history to BOTH unify and claim Ring belts in three separate divisions. The only fighter to become four belt undisputed at 168 (despite being the smallest fighter). And the only ex welterweight since Hearns to be champ at 175. He's done it all yet continues adding to his resume.

How canelo the face of boxing when he clearly duck and dodges elite competition in his own weight class. Why seek out an 154 pounder when David Benavidez undefeated mandatory still waiting for his opportunity come on!!! And whoever want to defend canelo in a debate ill mop the floor with you with facts!! No hate just hardcore FACTS. LETS GO!! WHOEVER

Saw Canelo vs Jacobs today 9/16/23 and could not see why Canelo won that fight. There are a number of fights that Canelo won by decision that could have easily gone the other way. So politics has played a big part on his close wins. The Promoters in his corner determine who wins the close ones . Canelo is the cash cow in most of his fights and his people are usually if not always except in the Mayweather fight, are the main promoters. That is the way Boxing runs. That’s the way it was for Mayweather, Chavez, Pacquiao and so many others. Close fights and sometimes not so close fights are usually won by the cash cow.
