Jared take this as honest review for you. What u read about the camera review by ken is true and what’s written by ken is not right I agree to you on that but my below view of you is based on other few videos I have seen in early years when I started watching

You just read out specs in your review and there is nothing more than what is already known by most.

I am not a ken Rockwell fan but his lens reviews are detailed and it May take you a few births to come up with real detailed review of that level.

You are not funny at all but somehow you think you are.

There is so much of BS and talk but relevant out of it is May be just 10 percent.

And I do t watch you videos much at start I used to watch but moved away from you when I got a hang of your B.S.

Ken presents himself as someone who is so rich and connected, he doesn't NEED to shoot raw, and he has a point! Smartphones have done to photography what photography did to painting. Now photographers are struggling to justify their existence. Most, to be honest, should look for a job.

This is a really unprofessional video. It's one thing to have a disagreement with someonebut another thing entirely to trash a person behind their back. Not only that but fro had to have a crony to pile on all the negative attacks.
Next time, invite Mr. Rockwell on your show to have a discussion or a debate. Just bashing him publicly behind his back is way beyon unprofessional.

right of the bat, we're living in a world where many people operate 10 yo computers, don't have a laptop and don't know the first thing about jpg, raw or even how to view a photo beyond what windows can show. So, anyone buying an entry level Nikon may actually benefit from his advice. My wife doesn't even know or CARE to know how to transfer photos to a computer. AND she certainly doesn't have the latest computer or cares to sit around to wait or buy external drives etc. etc. So AFRO, it depends and it's not bad advice for novice dslr users.

Also, some of these reviews were written decades ago and you have to realize that Rockwell uses something called "sarcasm" in his writing. If you don't disclose that, you're missing the point and benefiting from it.

People who don't know the difference between jpg and raw or are buying a nikon d3300 likely NOT going to be cropping anything. Most people think cropping is something you do in Iowa. Get off your high horse.

His images are detailed in part is because he doesn't rate equipment on the basis of latest trends like Bokeh or whatever and understands that critical sharpness is reached several stops below wide open, and it doesn't affect the depth of field as much as you might think, especially if you know how to position the subject vs your angle of view and background...

Jared, you should watch and respond to Ken's review of the Sony A1 where he mocks folks who shoot in RAW as "consumers" and not "pro photographers". The dude can have dumb ideas, but it's his mocking of others that drives me over the edge.

Ken has a more old fashion, hey let's just enjoy photography again approach. He is also one of the few photography u tubers that actually read his comments and comments back to questions his viewers ask him.

I don't understand how someone can spend 1hour and 54 minutes in a video attacking someone in a destructive manner. This video tells me more about the maker of this video than Ken Rockwell. Shameful.

My camera has dual sd slots. I shoot CRAW on one card and Jpg small. I then transfer the jpgs to my iPhone via the card reader to send out ASAP, then process the rest when I get home.

I feel like Rockwell is good for describing the physical nature of the camera, but when it comes to picture quality, I take him with a grain of salt since his photos are usually processed basic jpgs.

Hi Jared, I just ran into this today and find it kind of harsh. First, everyone has their take, peculiarities, and preferences; and that is okay. For example, after watching your fun and informative videos (which I still do), I quickly learned you were a Nikon and Canon fanboy, more so previously than now. And that was okay. I just had to keep that in mind during some of your reviews. Also, your criticism of Ken assumes most people reading and watching his content do not know much about technology, computers, or photography. Unless someone has been living in a cave, for decades, and suddenly comes out to tackle technology and photography, most people will know better when they read a statement such as "this camera cannot take a bad picture." I would take it to mean: as a photography tool, this camera is just as good as any other. Of course, it is super easy to take a bad picture. Also you're a pro. Beginners don't like to think about easy it is to take a bad picture, which you probably don't remember the feeling of. 😄

Ahh Jared me boy..............you made a mistake ranting on on good ol" Kenny like that. Maybe you backed off a little bit at the end but I turned you off after two minutes. If you are going to slice and dice you should at least be polite. Lesson learned, I'm sure.

Ken Rockwell gives very genuine straight forward advise and there is lots of it that I have taken into consideration with other peoples including yours. I am sure he may not be perfect on all of his info as with other people but he is straight to the point and there is no time wasting. I do listen to you also for your opinion but your problem is you are a to cocky and bla bla bla to much with less of the good info and to much Bla Bla. Sorry, get better, and it is about what you get with the Camera you use. The D3300 is pretty full proof on auto depending what your trying to take a picture of unless your a dummy so I would agree with him, it jusy not as easy as a mobile phone.

Nothing dangerous about shooting it in camera and getting it so close to perfection you don’t need to process in post. Its called knowing what you like and how to achieve it.
I shoot my personal photos in this manner.
But commercially RAW, ADOBE RGB.
To each his own FRO.

I just assume Ken wrote his site in the late 90s & just incrementally updated it into the 00s. He’s an old engineer, & writes like every engineer I’ve ever worked with talks, that assuming his knowledge in his area of specialization is infallible and also qualifies every thought on everything else as infallible too, leading to the parade of ex-wives and getting caught up in & believing in all manner of charismatic nonsense. They don’t teach engineering students the humanities here, it’s a serious cultural problem. Kens archive of technical data is useful but a decade after this video, his low-fi quantity over quality approach is a recurring issue every semester, and that’s overlooking the hyperbole, conspiracy theorizing & self-aggrandizing silliness. Still, no one else has assembled as expansive a resource online.

We all know these camera gurus recommend spending 6500 bucks on a camera. Run the files through Lightroom and then buy another camera and or lens....Then run the files through Lightroom instead of learning photography....Remember your 3 year old iPhone takes a very good photo... soon as they perfect the electronic zoom....these people are done..

Ken Rockwell is entertaining. There’s something to be learned from anyone in the business that long.
