Was @ Army ROTC Advanced Camp @ Ft. Riley, KS out in the field, when the TAC Leader told us the Argies surrendered. We all let out a round of cheers as well as hoots & hollers.
ОтветитьWhy didn’t Thatcher just ask the US to borrow some KC-135s to do the refueling? I’m pretty sure President Reagan would have honored the special relationship, no? Those Vulcan bombers look like something out of science fiction!
Ответить👏💙👏💙👏🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 great story... as a kid growing up at that time I remember enormous pride in our military. 🙏
ОтветитьAmazing story thanks for sharing 👏👏👏👏👏👏
ОтветитьMark, could you do a full day to day series on the falklands? That would be incredible
ОтветитьThe real question is why the Falklands are so important to these psychopaths? I know it's very close to Antartica. Hint hint
ОтветитьThe proverbial had hit the fan 😜
You mean the defecation hit the ventillation?
Sorry old boy, love to chat but I need to go take a proverbial 🚽
The Falklands war was anything but unexpected to anyone responsible. The Argentinian Governments intent was written as headlines on newspapers months prior, it was no secret - there were 60,000 UK expats living in Patagonia at the time.
It was a war fought to rescue Thatchers approval ratings from the lowest of any post war prime minister, the most expensive election campaign in British history and way too many people fell for it. 9/10 people at the time of invasion didn't even know where the Falklands were. Even the home secretary had to get his globe and check. The year before the same government had revoked the right of Falklanders to work in Britain or claim the UK pension. It was nothing short of a fucking travesty.
Fascinating video, but how exactly was this plane 'missing'?
ОтветитьI was the last person to put fuel into XM597 at RAF Waddington prior to its departure to East Fortune museum in 1984.
ОтветитьGood soldiers, always underfunded. Disgraceful government as usual
ОтветитьStunningly beautiful bird. So sad they are gone forever. Along with British aerospace. Great post, as usual.
ОтветитьI saw an RAF Vulcan parked in the Tangiers airport, circa 1985. Beautiful plane, immediately recognized it...
ОтветитьNow back to subject, this is very, VERY beautiful plane, love sounds of jet engines
ОтветитьMy favorite thing about Falkland war was the fact that BOTH sides used my favorite rifle
The FAL
Most sexiest piece of kit I've ever seen or used
i love this so much thanks for the vid Mark
ОтветитьI'm fairly sure Spectre stole one of these and held the world hostage with its nuclear warheads until a British gentleman boned the dudes girlfriend and cocked the whole thing up.
ОтветитьAnd I've been inside one of them
ОтветитьThanks again Mark, Again you've told me something I didn't know; Great video!
ОтветитьThanks for the story. I like these British round looking planes.
ОтветитьHave a great day everyone.
ОтветитьWonderful about us Brits and our “so called” shit equipment is that we highly ingenuitive with what we have and treat each piece of equipment with great respect. We master our equipment and are able to utilise it to great effect. When I was in the Army Cadets we trained at the Aylsham road TA Centre and had access to the some of the Armies artillery (Of course we weren’t allowed to use it but we were taught how it worked) and there was always a strong sense of attention to the minutest details when it came to our “crap” equipment. Actually none of our equipment was crap. And that’s why we always win.
ОтветитьMe and my sister have played inside that Vulcan. We are from Norwich. It sits just outside Norwich airport at the air museum.
ОтветитьThe airfield at Ascension Island, Wideawake Field was built by the Americans during WW2. The runway was extended for support of the missile tracking station, made jet worthy. During the Falklands War British support came from USAF facilities, including billeting, mess and round the clock ramp and refueling operations. This was carried out by USAF civilian contract personnel, which at the time were Pan American World Airways World Services Division.
ОтветитьIn the early 1970s, I lived in a place called Nettleham, couple of miles from RAF Scampton. One morning I counted 15 or 16 Vulcans circling overhead joining up with a bunch of them from RAF Waddington. What an awesome sight.
Ответить"Tell 'em we're from Uddersfield..." That did it. Don't fuck with us Yorkshiremen.
ОтветитьI remember seeing the Vulcan at Billy Mitchell Field in Milwaukee during a 1970 or 1971 airshow. It was amazing in the air and on the ground and meeting the crew for an eleven year old was like meeting the Beatles or the Stones in flight suits.
ОтветитьI think it's somewhere in the Bahamas, under the water and under some camouflage netting, and Sean Connery is swimming around it (or maybe that's his great grandson).
ОтветитьYou don't fuck with the UK, Not then and not now. If you do, you get destroyed.
ОтветитьExcellent video thanks. But the Falklands war was a criminal waste of human life. The generals in Argentina carried out the invasion for domestic political reasons. Margaret Thatcher had an election coming up & made her cynical decision.
Ответитьis it just me or is that kinda weird to have a flying dinosaur carry two misles instead of a jet lol. Couldn't find a pick of harrier carrying a the shrike so I guess a bomber works. otherwise a super interesting history!
ОтветитьSo you deleted my comment? And here I believe that the UK is all about free speech, democracy and human rights, right...
ОтветитьAs always an interesting story full of unknown history. Love your amazing knowledge of military history
ОтветитьReally enjoyed that, thank you!
ОтветитьAs a veteran, I would like to thank you for your outstanding work in preserving in military history. Great job as usual
ОтветитьReally beautiful plane.
ОтветитьBritain’s own Doolittle raid!
ОтветитьIsn’t there a story that Argentina faked the appearance of bomb hits using piles of earth from a wheelbarrow ?
ОтветитьTo whom the Falklands islands belong..let mi think a while...14.000 km from England and 28 meters from Argentina..hmmmmmm
Ответитьthey called the mission Black Buck. Jesus christ. Did the Brits prep the bull for the next operation? Brits, not even once.
ОтветитьI seen mark on Tv talking about ww2 and he's a Dr... Dr Felton 👍🏻
Ответитьwow great episode
ОтветитьSo, the UK bribed brazil with a broken missile, so they could look the other way as the Vulcan returned home. Yeah, that's how brazil works.
ОтветитьThis is a ledendary story for us here in Brazil that like millitary history. Glad that this beauty paid us a visit. Greetings from the other side of the pond.
ОтветитьJesus. Why’s British equipment such shit?
ОтветитьThe Vulcan an incredibly beautiful yet incredibly deadly machine .
ОтветитьAmazing story - brave men.
ОтветитьSuch a beautiful aircraft, shame we won't get to see her fly again. A few years back a Vulcan flew right over are heads when we were on Margate sands at the time, such a awesome sight and sound too.
Ответитьthe last thing Russians would have seen is Vulcans
the last thing Vulcans would have seen is SAM missile
if you think there is no countermeasure for any countermeasure you are wrong .. there are no winners in Nuclear war .. to propose that anything else will kill you is so ignorant.
