The Volkswagen Touareg Receives Comprehensive Facelift for 2024

The Volkswagen Touareg has emerged from its mid-cycle facelift looking better than ever. The refreshed luxury SUV boasts sleek new styling, upgraded tech features, and enhanced performance options that are sure to excite buyers in the competitive segment. Now entering its third generation that originally debuted in 2018, the 2024 Touareg doubles down on its premium appeal with thoughtful improvements throughout.

Exterior Styling Embraces Contemporary Trends

The most noticeable changes to the Touareg lie with its exterior styling. Volkswagen has added prominent light bars at both the front and rear, lending a modern touch to the design. The choice of wheels has also expanded, now ranging from 19 to 22 inches depending on the trim. Higher-end versions like the sporty R-Line and R models exclusive 22-inch wheels finished in a bold Silicon Gray Matt.

In a first for a Volkswagen manufactured in Europe, the Touareg also gains an illuminated badge on the tailgate. This premium detail aligns with contemporary automotive design directions. Up front, the headlights have been completely redesigned with an unmistakable triple “L” theme. They utilize advanced matrix LED technology with sophisticated micro-LEDs, much like what is found in the 2024 Porsche Cayenne.

The IQ. Light HD LED matrix headlights have an impressive 19,216 individually controllable micro LEDs. This allows for maximum lighting versatility to suit different driving scenarios. The taillights have also been updated to coordinate with the new headlight design.

Interior Adopts Latest Digital Trends

Inside the cabin, Volkswagen equips the 2024 Touareg with its innovative Innovision Cockpit. This seamlessly integrates a 12-inch fully digital instrument cluster and 15-inch central touchscreen display. The new infotainment system supports high-resolution HD map data and offers enhanced voice recognition. It also comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability right out of the box.

The interior styling sees piano black switchgear along with ambient lighting that prominently displays the “Touareg” name across the passenger side of the dashboard. Overall, the updates provide a tangible upgrade over the outgoing model in terms of both design and functionality.

New V6 Engine Options Deliver Strong Performance

Under the hood, Volkswagen has dropped the V8 TDI diesel engine. The 2024 Touareg will now come exclusively with V6 powertrains. The base engine is a 3.0-liter turbocharged gasoline V6 putting out 335 horsepower. On the diesel side, two outputs are available from the 3.0-liter TDI V6: 228 hp and 282 hp.

For buyers interested in electrification, the Touareg eHybrid combines a 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine with an electric motor. Total system output is 375 hp, or 456 hp in the high-performance Touareg R. Regardless of configuration, power gets sent through an 8-speed automatic and Volkswagen’s signature 4Motion AWD system.

Enhanced Ride Comfort and Refinement

Whether riding on the standard steel suspension or available air suspension, the 2024 Touareg sees improvements in overall comfort and refinement. The tuning has been adjusted for better ride quality over various road surfaces. Volkswagen has also introduced a new roof load sensor. By monitoring weight on the roof, it’s able to dynamically adjust the vehicle's handling characteristics to maintain maximum stability.

Trim Levels and Pricing

In its home market of Germany, the 2024 Volkswagen Touareg will be available in Base, Elegance, R-Line, and R trims. Prices start at €69,200 for the base model and climb to €93,870 for the range-topping Touareg R. Since its original launch in 2002, Volkswagen has sold over 1.13 million units worldwide. The comprehensive 2024 update ensures the Touareg maintains its place among elite luxury SUVs.
