That clay is really bad also the wheel is super hard to put pressure on it to get it properly centered. The wheel slows down too much.

You're probably not supposed to do it like this, but I briefly dip my clay into water before I start shaping it. Then again I also don't use a pottery wheel, and I work with fondant more than clay.

As a ceramic major, I just wanted them to use more water and “firmly grasp it!” As they had their hands cupping the clay as it spun. But all honesty not too bad as a first try with no real instructions.

Apparently, you guys have never seen the movie ghost lol. Watch that then make some clay. You need a lot more water than you were using Kaitlyn.

ps if you guys try this again, wedging your clay before you ball it and throw it helps a lot! and using the sponge when you're "pulling" really helps too

For the expensive one it's speed controlled so you can adjust it so it doesn't cause you to shake.

I got a childs potters wheel when i was about 8 or 10 and that thing was far more productive with me doing it all with my hands and it was only about £20 from Argos so that so called cheap one with all the pointless accessories needs to be binned or returned for your money back.

I wined at Evan, the whole time. I wined about every little thing he did wrong. My main thing to tell my friends, who've never done clay work, is to start by making pinch pots. Pinch pots are exactly what they're named, pots made by pinching and smoothing with your fingers.

Ok. I skimmed the comments and didnt see this offering... As a professional potter, the easiest way to center. Is to meet the clay with the heel of your hand positioned in a way that the clay coming around pushes your forearm straight backwards eitth your elbow pushing into your hip. That way your arm cannot noodle and the clay will not be able to push your butt off the chair. You'll find it much easier to boss the clay against the heel of your hand when it's supported from being pushed backwards by your hip. I hope that makes sense.
