Mike Brewer on why Edd China left Wheeler Dealers

I think it was a shame that Edd left, however I enjoyed it while Ant was on it too. I think it had already lost some of it's appeal before Edd left. The reason I stopped watching it so much was the format once the show moved to America. That broke it for me. The old format where they concentrated more on what happened in the workshop and Mike sourcing parts was far more interesting. Nobody was ever that bothered about how much the car made, it was how they could turn a shabby classic into something that looked mint. When it moved to America it became the Mike Brewer show. He was obviously happy with that concept. He could have said "Hold on a minute, we need to focus more on what goes on in the workshop like we used to", but for obvious reasons he didn't!

I prefer Edd,on another show the new guy would be fine... not on wheeler dealer...it's all about maximizing money profits...Mike and Edd had a good run,,,many a Saturday I watched them, I Like Edds videos I dont like the new Format

For me, the show has died!

It's funny how when Ed tells his version of this, he was incredibly respectful and threw nobody under the bus. And then you hop over to here and get Mike's story...

Edd was the talent, no one would watch WD without him, Mike was just a mouth.

Mein brewer is a meglamanic it's his way or highway, brewer try's to come along as a happy go lucky guy but if you watch the show he is ruthless arrogant imposing.marc (Elvis) if you cross him it will be at your peril!

End of the day ed was the one that had the talent he was the one that did all the work any mug can go buy a second hand car and get a machanic to do it up man what did Mike do to warrant being the top man nothing

The issue as I saw it was Discovery. If you watch their automotive shows they start out with the work being the focus which brings success and with it audiences. Once a success then Discovery wanted to focus more on personalities and not the work.
Ant was brought in and he was more about the show than the work.
Mark on the other hand is more about the work again. He is every good as Edd and much easier to watch than Ant.
I see it today on Iron Resurrection as an example where the show was once about the work and now more about the interactions between the cast and the exploits of Shag and Amanda.

Season 6 appears to be the end of IR probably because a guy like Joe Martin knows his fans are into what he does not theatre.
The best parallel I can think of outside the auto world is home renovation.
Mike Holmes was great for a DIYer to learn in the early days. Then it became personality focused, gimmicky and no longer educational.
Brian Bulmer the same. Theatre not the work.
Even that oldest program of its ilk on PBS This Old House is slowly losing its focus on the brilliance of guys like Tommy with Norm gone.
It's sad but it is what it is. Dream Cars is good as is WD with Mark. I just hope Discovery gets its hands

brewer had the easy job, edd had the graft no wonder he'd had enough. as for brewer saying edds his best friend i haven't heard edd slagging off brewer.

From what i heard true or not edd mainly left because the production team wanted to cut corners on the car repairs and edd being a genuine mechanice wanted to do everyrhing by the book when it came to restoring vehicles.

EDD = Integrity, Mike = salesman, nuff said

Wow after hearing Mike trash edd which I wasn't expecting I'm kinda glad he left.

Somehow /s i believe Edds version of events a "Bit" more than Mikes.

No one likes a used car salesman badmouthing a nice guy.

It all started to go wrong when Mike started to work on the cars. That was the problem!! Nobody wants to see that!! That was Edds department!!

So Edd was working all hours fixing cars and filming, while Mr Brewer had little film cameos here and there and did what he pleased with the rest of his time. Not sure I'd want to work in arrangement with such a one sided input of time and effort, either.

The big difference is the way each party addressed the split. Edd, nice as pie about Mike. Mike not so much. I'll stop there however, out of respect for Edd who asked that no-one bash Mike.

I see WD is back with yet another new mechanic, that says everything really.

Edd's channel is worth watching though!

The last season with Edd was more about the stupid skits than the cars.

I didn't watch Wheeler Dealers after Edd left. He was the best part of the show. Not this guy.

Several years ago, Ed China spelled out the problem in a few words. I paraphrase, --A big success in the States, British owners / producer's offered big Bucks for takeover of the show. Now in control, they wanted to change the successful formula. More images of flash Cars, far less close-up camera work on Eds repair skills. Which is the most popular factor, about the show. Ed quits.

What a cheek, Mike trying to make out that Edd didn't wanna work is so stinky. Edd clearly did the real graft for 13 years. The show is awful now, cant get through an episode.
