Stop putting two engines in a car. You need an electric motor and a range extender. That's it. No need for a gas engine and an electric motor. Mazda is on to something.

Well in my case, the mixed driving of 30% city and 70% motorways, hybrid is definitely the choice, the only change would probably be the classic hybrid I currently have to the plug in one in a while. However, the charging infrastructure is still bad in the south of Spain, so I am in no hurry for that change...

The Tesla network is all over the place, the infrastructure is all there. I have driven over 100,000 miles and no repairs minus tires. By far EVs are better not to mention software that updates and solves any recalls automatically

Hybrid, best of both worlds. All cars are already hybrid actually though. They all have a battery onboard already

While I would dearly love to go all electric, the charging infrastructure and its reliability are just not there yet. In addition, battery technology is still improving so if I had to drop my ICE car today, I would go for a PHEV (as would others -- the new Prius is hard to get a hold of!)

The big marketing fail for hybrid is they’ve been positioned as “green” vs highlighting the improved the driving experience where the electric motors provide instant power and torques when you push the petal down. I’m fact many hybrid versions of the same car have more horsepower then the gas only versions.

They talk about EVs, like everyone lives in a suburban home, has a charging point waiting for them and a ton of disposable income to afford a new car to start with, if not an EV.
Or swaps their cars every 8-10 years.

Based on a horrible EV infrastructure in the US I vote for Hybrid. EVs are really cool if you have $80K to spend on a commuter car that you don't need. The car technology is there but the infrastructure is decades behind the cars. No one ever talks about the millions of charging stations that will be required and the energy (fossil fueled) it will take to power them. How about being forced to take 4 to 6 hour charging breaks when you travel to Chicago or Boise? No one thinks beyond the end of their noses. How about this for a conspiracy theory. The government wants to limit the mobility of the "folks" because that makes them much easier to control. And what about when they tell us a brown out is necessary to conserve energy. We, the folks, will be stranded in our unheated, uncooled houses until "Big Daddy" says its okay to go out. No real scientist in his/her right mind will tell you that solar and wind can replace fossil. It will never happen and they don't even plan on it happening. That's not the goal. If they meant it we would be turning to nuclear like sane people. The technology is there and it is tested and proven.

I think plug in hybrid is the way to go. We have recently bought one - and for around 75% of local journeys, we run on pure electric mode. If it had a bit longer electric range (say 40-50 miles vs the 20-25 it has), we could probably get that up to around 95%.

We only use the petrol engine when we go on a longer trip that exceeds the electric range - or when we just need a bit more oomph, but these are few and far between.

I just don't think the EV infrastructure is keeping pace for the country to go full electric - but plug in hybrid could reduce fossil fuel use dramatically by eliminating most of the short range inefficient journeys (the school run, going shopping, short commutes to work etc), whilst giving people the backup of internal combustion on the few occasions they need to make a longer trip.

Hybrid for me since I don't want to run out of battery on a 500 mile trip. Maybe if we find more ways to generate electricity and have more charging stations, electric might be practical. Here in California we can barely produce enough electricity to cool our homes in the summer for fear of blackouts. How reliable are the charging stations? I just read an article where a person was charging their car and ten minutes later the charging unit broke down. That's a heck of a predicament.

If/when the electric grid goes down you'll regret it if you own an EV vs owning a hybrid vs a gasoline car or Diesel.

EV cars simply aren't tactical and are impractical in my opinion and probably have an overall larger carbon footprint than other options if you really research it.

I work on vehicles for a living, and to say that the price of maintenance is cheaper for electric vehicles is absolutely a lie. First off you can't take your vehicle to anywhere for work, most mechanics do not have the knowledge of how to work or or even have the software to plug into these vehicles, so now your limited to go to a dealer or very expensive shop. Second is electrical systems are crazy as hell, one poor ground could cause the entire vehicle to act crazy, or one bit of corrosion could ruin something very very expensive like a battery. Third is sensors, and they are expensive, can be a nightmare to diag, and hard to get when they commonly fail due to national backorder. We experience these things on modern vehicles, so enjoy when there are no nuts and bolts, and it all requires a electric vehicle tech to even attempt to look at your vehicle.

I don't know if it's worth a hybrid car, if you do many kilometers every month on the highway. For me, for example, doing 2500 km every month, of which 95% are on the highway, it's not very economical if the car is hybrid. at the moment my car (a C-class w205 diesel) is very economical, but I have the problem with the interior space, being a family of 4 people. what could I choose hybrid plug-in or full electric? thank you

I think until they improve the electric cars quite a bit more hybrid is the way to go I can still drive my hybrid across country without having to wait for hours at a time to charge it which it has proven it often takes hours just to get to 80%. Then there's finding the charging station that will work with your car they're not all universal.
Trips that used to take a few days would probably double in time so you're going to spend more time charging more time on hotels more time eating while you're on the road.

@sanjitabiswas804 - 26.05.2022 08:03

The problem is no one want to wait 1 hours if turbo charge is available. Or if not then then 3hrs on a charging station.
Problem electric vehicles are too over priced and not much efficient milage and pickup.
Depends on country to country
On infrastructure. There are not much power stations. And not much infrastructure.
Lastly saving the environment doesn't means comprising power, milege and efficiency. Hybrid is better option.
No one forcing to buy electric.
And the UN is already a failure
The 17 agendas of sustainable development are written but no one is interested after it's problem.
Petrol car is much cheaper and gives,6 times better milege. No charging tension and enough pickup power. Lack of infrastructure over the world only Germany, France, Japan has developed infrastructure fir EVs and many countries are not interested.
