Nyarly's Introduction to Megami Tensei

My first introduction was through Persona 5 the anime and Joker in Smash Bros, then my curiosity decided to dig deeper, I found persona 4, 3 , 2 and then 1, then I found out it was apart of something larger and found Shin Megami Tensei

I must be one of the few people who had their butts handed to them on a silver platter while playing smt iv because the minotaur and medusa fights absolutely farmed my patience. Spent at least 5 hours of grinding, fusing & understanding to FINALLY get to the mid fight dialogue for the minotaur and same with Medusa. I was playing a gun build which is difficult off the start, but MANNN did it make me want to quit. glad I didn't tho, because I got to see the most anti-climactic neutral ending ever. Don't get me wrong, the game was great, but the ending was kinda of like driving 100mph towards your goal, only to be stopped IMMEDIATELY and told that the game is over and that was it, when you felt like there was definitely supposed to be more. Just started smt iv apocalypse so we'll see how that impacts the ending to iv regular

I got into SMT first with Lucifer's call on the PS2 as a blind purchase in 2005 Then I later played the digital devil saga duology and persona 3 FES I'm still yet to play Persona 4 and 5 but i have played SMT 4 and 5 :)

I wish Atlus would release a lot of these games on current consoles.

I started with strange journey, liked it until the last dungeon, then went to SMT 4, and became in LOVE with it, such an amazing game

Devil Survivor sounds really cool, I didn't even know SMT HAD SRPGs, gonna have to check that one out.
Though I have to disagree with your recommendation for Persona 3, it's repetitive, it's VERY weeby, and even visually, it's just boring.

I tried persona 5 but abandoned it after the 4th boss. I loved the combat and collection/rpg parts. But had no interest in the slice of life stuff. Only recently when my son played P5 and i mentioned my love/hate relationship with P5. A google search later and a forum post on gamefaqs lead me to SMT5. Loving it. Actually looking forward to playing the older games.

Shin Megami Tensei Series: The Series that makes you care about buffs and rebuffs.

Given Digimon's drought of games, Pokemon's direction now and my massive affinity and interest in the Occult and Witchcraft, I hopped into SMT recently through P5R and P5S, phenomenal games. Now I'm slowly starting SMT Nocturne and SMT V and I'm really vibing with it so far!

I actually discovered this game today, by searching for music composed by Tsukasa Masuko, who (if I'm not mistaken) made music for the early games for the famicon system. This is a JRPG that I have never heard of before and honestly I'm not entirely sure if I would be interested in playing any of the games, but I defintely like the story and alignment system of the game. It does remind me of the first persona game that I played on PS1 years ago.

What you said about dying after making so much progress without saving hit me. I just started P3 Fes and I forget to save after making so much progress. I had to restart from playing for 4 hours straight 🥲

I would love to see the first 2 remastered for modern day platforms I've never played them but I've been watching videos on them I like the stories on those 2

Started with persona 4 and the combat is the least fun of the game, starts fight and main character gets instantly killed like wow i didnt even get a chance to do anything. And I dont understand the whole fusing thing, I can fuse three monsters and make a lvl 59 creature then the game cockblocks me saying i cant have a high lvl monster. Like okay then whats the point.

With all the new releases over the past three years, especially SMT5, how well would you say this video aged?

As a long time Final Fantasy fan , particularly FFTactics I was looking for a new Strategy JRPG, and was recommended Devil Survivor. I instantly was blown away by the depth in the mechanics, and found this video from curiosity into other entries in the series. Anyways thanks for the tips, even though it made me feel like a JRPG vet, because I already know most them (Saving Alot), but knowing buffs are important was a good piece of advice.

Obviously the best place to start now is SMT V. It's the first one I played and I loved it so so so much I went back and started playing the rest

I actually played through and beat smt 5 multiple times before going into Nocturne and I have to say that it feels like this game was intentionally made to be as frustrating as possible. I wouldn't even say the game's hard it's just everything from the level design to how some of the game mechanics work it just seem to be made to be as obtuse and frustrating as possible

SMT as a Whole is a depressing story with funky Music and im not mad about it.

pretty crazy how these games evolved overtime. I'm still relatively new to the games. I played Persona 5 after watching my mom play 3, then I played Persona 4, a few days ago I finished nocturne, now I'm playing devil summoner 1 and 2, and then I'm gonna play persona 3. Could never get into persona 1 sadly.

I think Digital devil saga introduced me well to the series. I didn't find it too hard, I love grinding and the visuals and ost are amazing.
