While walking around Elton in Derbyshire, I encountered historic roadside wells and troughs.
This roadside well consists of a stone trough and slab on a grass verge surrounded by Geraniums.
This well was the original water source for the village of Elton. I have included an original photo of a local farmer filling up milk churns and selling the water in the village at a penny-a-go.
Back in November 1983, this well was a hidden gem, lost in overgrowth. But thanks to the collective efforts of the locals and the Derbyshire Dales council, it was restored to its former glory.
I hope you enjoy this short documentary on this county treasure, a testament to our community’s pride and dedication.
