Fallout is so good, I'll be honest I've only played from 3 onward, but I feel you get enough lore to not really need to play 1 and 2, However, it's your call, but I'd be interested in seeing a playthrough including the first 2. Maybe if anything, you can do like the first witcher and watch a recap of the first 2. Fallout 4 is my favorite, I dont care what anyone says or the hate it gets.

Depending on your game preference. If you want straight up shooter, go Fallout 3 and New Vegas. If you like open world and sand box building, go 4. For sand box Plus Co-Op go 76. 4 IMO is the best with 76 being an enormous let down.

Fallout is more of a critique about extremism in general than it is about just capitalism. American extremism just take Center Stage because it's set in the United states. There's plenty of lore about how china, the other superpower in the universe, completely fell apart as well.

The hideouts cabin fucked me up, not a quest but a note that fucked me up, fallout is great at background story telling

Start with fallout 3 then fallout new vegas and then fallout 4. You also have fallout 76, it's open world Luke the rest but it's multi player. Its up to you about that one. You may like it and you may not

You have no idea how much hype fallout 4 reveal was, it was the only thing people talked about in the gaming world... can't believe the game is 7 years old now and is getting a next gen upgrade next year

That was some weak ass New Vegas trailer.

Fallout was great, but its been in a descending trend.
The first two were great as they had this really dark tone to them, but are more difficult to get into due to the old style turn-based gameplay, and can be pretty unforgiving.
From 3 onward it was in full 3D and with "modern" gameplay, but in my own eyes kinda reduced due to treating the setting as more of a joke.
3 Still did it quite well and kept the joke aspect to a relative low.
But with 4 the game plays more like a slot machine where the game throws countless funny/jackpot sounds and flashes at you all the time, and the story really stops trying to remain grounded.
To the point where you can't even believe many aspects of the story anymore (mainly how the factions even still exist or succeed in anything considering their dumb choices)

76 just is a slot machine.
You keep ramming money in the game.

I'm currently replaying my 18th time through FO4 with heavy mod use. Even now, almost half a decade later after release, it's still so much fun and I love it. I am finally going to finish Nuka World and Far Harbor since I didn't get a chance to the last few times. You can do so much with these games and they have a really avid and intense fanbase with very active users.

Little lore info Fallout is based on an alternative future where atomic energy accomplished all the things they thought it would when first made like robots, flying cars and what not and the culture stayed very 50’s in look

I’d start with fallout 3. I just read the plots of the originals. Then it’s New vegas I think you’d like a lot. Then fallout 4.

I’ve played Fallout since the first one, although I didn’t have a PS2, so I never played the BoS one.

Tactics isn’t considered to be canon, but I personally enjoyed it.

I haven’t played 4 or 76, since my computer is old and I don’t have any next-gen consoles, so I can’t speak to them.

3 and NV are nice, and there’s even a mod to merge them into one game (with 3’s mechanics upgrades to NV). Each has some nice DLCs that add a lot of content, like going to the remains of Pittsburgh or being abducted by aliens in 3 or finding a lost research complex in NV

The bomb didn’t drop in the fifties. More like the early 21st century. But it’s an alternate history where American culture and aesthetics seemed to have stopped in the fifties. Hence everything being “atomic” and retro

Fallout 1 and 2 are cult classics. One of the best RPG games ever made. From newer games only New Vegas have the same atmosphere and charm. F3 and F4 were good but also kinda disappointing. They pretty much were Elder Scrolls with guns.

The games are not connected, I recommend playing fallout 4 first because the gameplay beats all the others.

Fallout 4 gets some official next-gen updates in 2023 btw! 😉

There is also Fallout 76 but... we don't talk about it...
