I wouldn't move there unless I was rich or had a good job already otherwise ya there's some cool things about Japan but it's Japan it's not the West with all the downside of the West crooked politicians, criminals galore, obnoxious people, vagabonds and you name it it's still home. Home of the big fat american swine.

Sometimes it's early release in Japan such as video games and such

I wonder if you are rather an introvert and don't want to participate so much in work life after work, would it be a serious problem? Obviously, some commitment and cooperation is a must everywhere, you can't fully isolate yourself from coworkers. As an abstinent (is it the word for nor drinking alcohol in English?) I don't drink and like alcohol. Would it be ok for me to choose a juice instead? They don't force you to drink alcohol? 🤣 Would it be a lack of respect? For me not, but...?

Ha! In Denmark if you're applying for citizenship besides an exacting exam only in Danish, you have to write 3 essays in archaic Danish. (I looked into it as most of my ancestors are Danish, and ... ugh ... Trump was President here. That's how much anger and despair I had.)

Paolo,

I wanted to express my appreciation for the excellent video you created. The content was truly remarkable, and your delivery exhibited a high level of professionalism.

Regarding the topic of car inspection, it's worth noting that in the EU, a practice similar to Japan's is followed. Every car undergoes inspection; however, the costs associated with this process are notably more affordable. Interestingly, the inspection expenses remain consistent whether the car is 20 years old or just 5. Much like Japan, the initial inspection is conducted 3 years after factory delivery.

Shifting our focus to medication, it's noteworthy that painkillers in the UK are incredibly affordable. For instance, at Tesco, you can purchase a pack of Paracetamol or Ibuprofen for as little as 45 Pence, which is less than a pound, and this includes 14 tablets.

Mandatory car inspections are nothing new if you're from Canada, since you have mandatory car inspections in Canada. But the prices though... Definitely way cheaper for car inspections in Canada.

I live in Germany where the rent is cheap especially in Munich for example. So a small flat/apartment wouldn´t be an issue for me personally. I think if I would move to Japan, I would definitely focus on losing weight before coming to Japan(I am already to big in Germany :D). The return policy is kinda shocking. I would expect that modern companies would offer that. Here in Germany you even have good guarantee for your purchased items. Paperwork in Germany is probably the same or even worse. I am glad that my name is short. Similar to the size issue, I would need to focus to eat less and lose weight before coming to Japan. We have a similar car inspections in Germany but I think its cheaper than in Japan. I try to go out with colleagues more often, even tho I don´t want to. "weak drugs" I can only confirm it, 200mg of Ibuprofen is weak. In Germany you can get with prescription 600mg with 100 pills. I think 400mg without prescription but only 20 pills.

So all these can work out and all but what about natural disasters? Are there regions in japan which has low probability rate of disasters? We can do whatever we want as long as we’re alive and move out if things doesn’t work out. Ofc we can’t control such things but you should beware of the lion if entering it’s den. Thank you for such an informative video.

I decided in 2007 after my first trip to Japan that I can't work or stay in Tokyo for long. Don't get me wrong. I love the food, culture, shopping, scenery, people, safety, cleanliness, etc. So, I would come back to Japan again. Planning an Osaka/Kyoto trip in 2025.

For some context, I'm from Singapore and our population density is pretty high but not like Tokyo. It's honestly a bit overwhelming there and I prefer somewhere like Otaru. It's fine to travel and stay a few days but long term, I just feel it's too crowded, especially after my 2nd trip in Dec 2022.

Dealbreakers for me: I'm used to owning my home so renting just seem weird. The bureaucracy is CRAZY! I came in Dec 2022 and the online immigration paperwork took me 2 days to complete for 5 of us. We even need to upload scans of our travel documents for verification and there are 3 steps for each person and 10 uploads to get it approved.

Owning a car in Singapore has to be the MOST expensive in the world so I'm not daunted by the inspection, which is required here as well.

I remember I was wearing summer sportswear with leather jacket to a high-end cafe frequented by mostly women and I get looks from a obasan. It didn't make me uncomfortable but I guess she didn't approve of what I wear since I don't conform. Too bad for her! I'm just a tourist.🤭

For tech, honestly I prefer to buy in Japan. The specs are as high-end as USA (laptops) and the audio equipment are awesome! I even have an Amazon JP account and I'd ship things from Japan on and off. The only issue with laptop/PC component is, Japan seems to be more expensive than USA or Singapore.

The other thing I can't get around is the hierarchy system for careers. I prefer working in a team that has a flat hierarchy and I can't imagine myself working in a company that has such strict hierarchy where seniority, instead of meritocracy, is the norm.

Part of me feels bad for how individuals seem pressured to repress themselves for everything and everyone. High suicide rates and stupid societal pressure. The idea of being more considerate of others at a cost to oneself isn’t bad in itself, but quite frankly a lot of it is taken astronomically too far in their culture. To be born into such a repressive way of living and having mental health and therapy looked down upon or shunned honestly sounds miserable. For every single thing I enjoy or love about the idea of going to Japan, I have just as long a list of their societal bullshit. In terms of letting people form their own identities and be individually motivated, I think the US can be a MUCH more open and free place to live, despite the trade off of there being a decent amount more entitled assholes or the inconsiderate, I think having more freedom of thought is more important than simply safety. That’s my impression of Japanese culture, everything you live for and do has to be entirely for the group and people around you, and no help, support, or care for the individual. you are expected to sacrifice everything of yourself and never seek help or ask for anything in return to give society it’s falsified sense of safety and stability. Sad.

I'm about to enter university and there is a program in it where you can choose which country you want to work in for your final year and potentially get absorbed into the company after you finish your year. I chose Japan as the country to work in and I think I'm pretty prepared for the reality of it. I chose Japan because I wanted to have a try and see what's the hype with Japan and potentially move because I heard the healthcare is amazing there. But my friends occasionally accuse me of going there because I'm an Otaku cause I started to watch anime. But I think I can deal with all these problems that foreigners face.
