King Frederik of Denmark sends royal fans wild by trying out hammer throwing, BMX biking and table tennis as he shows support for his national teams ahead of the Olympics
King Frederik of Denmark has delighted royal fans by throwing himself into a handful of Olympic sports as he showed his support for his national teams.
The European monarch, 56, was shown taking part in BMX biking, table tennis, hammer throwing and skeet shooting practices with Olympic athletes in a series of social media videos this week.
On Tuesday, the Danish Royal Family's official Instagram revealed that Denmark is sending 135 athletes to participate in 20 categories at the Olympics in Paris next week.
The Instagram Reel showed the King surprising table tennis players Jonathan Groth, Anders Lind, Martin Buch Andersen and Tobias Rasmussen in the middle of one of their practices.
After greeting the players, King Frederik was then challenged to a match against one of the team.
Although the royal did display a natural talent, he struggled to keep up the Olympians and accidentally missed the table on a handful of occasions.
However, Frederik appeared to be a good sport about it and then watched in amazement as the team competed against one another.
The next day, the Royal Family's Instagram shared a video of King Frederik trying his hand at hammer throwing.
During his visit to a training ground, the King's practice was overseen by Katrine Koch Jacobsen, who is the first female hammer thrower that Denmark has ever sent to the Olympics.
Frederik began by studying Katrine's technique before trying it himself without the hammer.
Once Katrine has happy with his progress, Frederik picked up the hammer and continued tweaking his form.
The video ends with Frederik throwing the hammer against a wall covered by a sheet.
After being complimented by Katrine, the King joked that he didn't need to try it out for the second time.
On Thursday, the Royal Family shared a video of King Frederik's visit to Amager, where he watched BMX rider Malene Kejlstrup training.
Although the royal did try out a BMX bike, he avoided all the jumps on the course - preferring to stick to an even race track.
The caption read: 'Malene Kejlstrup is a former U23 world champion and European champion, and she has recently been working goal-oriented to get ready for the Paris Olympic Games.'
Watching from the sidelines, the King looked suitably impressed as Malene made her way round the course.
Finally, the Royal Family's Instagram posted a video yesterday of Frederik taking part in skeet shooting under the watch of Jesper Hansen, who is going to the Olympics for a fourth time.
The clip was filmed on a rainy day in Spring and shows Frederik receiving a tutorial on how to use the weapon and aim.
After a couple of misses at the start, Frederik looks chuffed as he hits the target at the end of the clip.
The videos have proven to be a hit with royal fans, who called Frederik the 'coolest King ever'.
One wrote: 'I've never seen a King so cool, Danish people are so lucky to have this monarch.'
Another added: 'He's really cool and down to earth, that's Frederik King of Denmark, who enchants people with magic!!'
Meanwhile, a third added: 'Such a sporting King!'
King Fredrik is known to love sports and began the 'Royal Run' initiative in Denmark in 2018.
