The Alaskan Murder that Shocked the World.

In this episode of True Crime Recaps, we dive into the shocking true story of a catfishing scheme that ended in a cold-blooded murder. Cynthia Hoffman, a 19-year-old girl with a developmental disability, went missing in Anchorage, Alaska. Her worried father, Tim Hoffman, organized search parties, but it was too late. Cynthia's body was found washed up on the banks of the river with her feet and wrists duct-taped together, a piece of tape wrapped around her mouth, and a single gunshot wound to the back of her head.

The police traced Cynthia's last moments to her so-called best friend, Denali Brehmer, who went by the name of "Angel." Denali, who was catfished, was promised $9 million to "rape and murder someone in Alaska" and send photos and videos of the crime to the catfisher. She chose Cynthia as the victim and recruited four other friends, including a 16-year-old gunman, to help her carry out the murder.
