What's on My 26 years-old DOS Machine?

Great stuff as always. Xwing was the first game I shop purchased for my first PC which was a 386dx. Love it so much. Recently re purchased it again, funny boxed, with expansions as well. Now to find an old PC lol.

Hoje em dia tento jogar estes jogos e passados 5 min paro. Parece que o meu tempo é mais valioso para o poder gastar neles. E vejo-me a selecionar o que vou jogar semanas em avanço para render (jogos actuais). Contudo em relação ao hardware, montar os sistemas e instalar coisas antigas parece-me uma jornada que me dá mais satisfação.

I'm impressed that you still have your old system. I unfortunately sold parts of my first PC when I upgraded... And that's how it went for years and years. Sell off some parts to buy new. I did build myself a new 486 a few years ago though, and really enjoy playing some old games or messing around with Fast Tracker II. :)

When I got my first PC clone, I was blown away by how loud the fans and hard drive were. Mostly that HARD DRIVE!!! It was a 1GB drive and it had this high pitched screach ... insane, compared to the slower spinning 40meg drive from my first Amiga and the 2.5" drive in my Amiga 1200.

I couldn't stand the noise of that hard drive. The whiny CPU fan didn't help either (Pentium 100).

Have you considered replacing the original hard drive with a Compact Flash card? Besides being faster, it's quieter and is less likely to fail. OTOH, I'm not sure how well it will work on an older IDE interface.

A very nice set of games there. I too have a Windows98 machine with quite a few DOS games on it next to the Windows9x games on there. Great stuff.

I just got one of these! Unfortunately the shipping companies are careless and they broke the handle. But I can definitely fix it with some epoxy.

O tetris e doom 2 eram os jogos que nunca saiam do meu computador. Estranhamente havia 1 demo chamada second reality que também guardava. Era 1 prodígio tecnico para a altura a nível gráfico, sonoro e criativo. Ainda n ouvi mods melhores que aquele

Soooo many cool games. I never had a PC back then , but I played most of those games on my A500. It’s fantastic that your machine still works so perfectly.
