1 year late now does it look?
ОтветитьNice Job, except for letting the super harsh chemical sit on your paint for that long... that was obviously going to damage it.
ОтветитьAnything but oil based on your coding, will destroy your vehicle talk to any mechanic and avoid rubber under coatings
ОтветитьThis is really only practical if you have a truck that doesn’t have any rust on it yet the amount of time it takes to de-rust this before you seal it all in would be weeks for some people most people watching this their truck is probably already very rusted to begin with.. if that’s the case, all you can do is just spread use motor oil on their water always find a way in so you can’t use sealant self
Ответитьso the paint doesnt trap moisture in the frame ?
ОтветитьHere in Canada, rust proofing products are rediculously expensive so I started making my own. Using a drill powered paint mixer, mix one 400 g tube of Valvoline grease with two quarts of chain saw bar and chain oil. Spray with a comprressed air undercoating sprayer.
ОтветитьI just grinded and put phosphoric acid prior to undercoating on ONE cross member of my pickup's frame and it took me closer to three hours and I was covered with dust after that. I can't even comprehend how someone could do the entire frame at once. Thank god the previous owner had it undercoated before me so it's almost rust free from the front to the rear of the cabin and only the parts sandblasted by the rear tires are rusting
ОтветитьThis is pretty much what i did to my old subaru. Wire brushed the under carriage for hours, sprayed it with over a quart of rust dissolver, pressure washed it when it had done its work, let it dry, then soak the entire under carriage with half a gallon of linseed oil using a spray gun (including inside the beams and structural members)
It is an awesome feeling! Now to see how it looks in a few years.
Linseed oil needs to be reapplied every year or two, but now that the worst part is done, its more a quick once over (unless some catastrophic areas reveal themselves)
its been a year, is there an update?
ОтветитьI hope you weren't sorry you sprayed anything that resembles paint. All I've ever see it do is crack and hold moisture & salt.
Surface Shield seems to be a good product, but I'll have to wait until its been on the market a few more years. It's too new for me invest in it, until I see about 5 years of applications.
I use corraseal with a pump sprayer...do it every fall before plow season...it works good depending on how thick and the temperature outside when I do it...alot of spots I don't have to do it again but I do anyways...it turns a dark black when it's done it's thing
ОтветитьHey did any get on the paint? From any overspray or air blowing across bottom ? Didn’t know if I need to put paper or anything on bottom of truck on sides ?.
ОтветитьThats a hell of a job
ОтветитьWhat are your thoughts on just using surface shield on the bare frame and foregoing paint?
ОтветитьFuc.., you should never wash rust converter 🥲☹️😣
ОтветитьFuck, you should never wash rust converter 🥲☹️😣
ОтветитьFuck, you should never wash rust converter 🥲☹️😣
ОтветитьFor long term maintenance would it just be a case of spot treating any rust and then topping up the undercoating layer every couple of years?
ОтветитьCan we get an update on how the proceds has held up ?
ОтветитьGreat job 👍🏼
ОтветитьI have been using a rust converter called Corroseal. It can be painted on, it's not poisonous and it leaves a beautiful black finish, but it still needs to be top coated. And it is water cleanup. So because I don't have a lift this is perfect for me.
ОтветитьLook into Por15 does the same thing but even tougher.
Ответитьit may have been easier and more logical to remove the body off the frame, have the frame dipped, etched sealed then coated, then do each component one at time as you assemble, the way you did it will help tremendously no jokes and prolly save you form any catastrophic failure which is I'm sure was your goal but man that's a lot of work you did there, may have been easier to frame off? only way to tell is to do each process side by side, of course you need the tools the rotisserie, space, tools all that.. either way I complement you and this will save your truck from the scrap yard for sure... good job man!
ОтветитьDoes it ever dry or is it just a wet look???
ОтветитьNice job!
ОтветитьYou made a vital mistake, I believe. Applying the undercoating over fresh paint will trap solvents in the paint, causing it to not stick to the surface.
ОтветитьDid you say "worst"?
ОтветитьWow, what a process! Great job on staying meticulous. Don’t think you”ll ever see rust on that baby!
ОтветитьNice work!
My car has rust only where the frame is welded, but overall is in good condition.
Do I have to do every step that you did to prevent further rust buildup? Can i just wire brush the rust and spray Surface Shield?
Awesome video!!! would you reccomend going straight to the blaster shield after the rust kutter or spraying the rust oleum after the rust kutter, looking to this real soon
Ответить10 months later how's it held up?
ОтветитьI’d rather just clean rust off then use corral seal then spray with heavy under coat or frame save paint and walk away because I’m to lazy to keep doing it every year
ОтветитьOnly down side is that stuff will attract the dirt and make underneath a mess
ОтветитьIf you’re able to do this, while the weather is warm, it will give FluidFilm more time to creep. You can also warm FluidFilm up in hot water first to help it flow and spray better
Ответитьexcellent demonstration
ОтветитьFluid film is better leave the rust alone.
Ответитьthats NOT FCKN RUST where do you live FLORIDA?????
ОтветитьAnd in a year from now you will see it all pealing off and you will have to do it all over again
ОтветитьNo. That white color is saying you need to neutralize the acid and rinse the white residue off. The white residue will cause adhesion issues.
ОтветитьIt's WORSE not worst. "prevent from getting WORSE" not worst.
ОтветитьSurface shield is good , but cosmoline is much better.
I feel like the paint was a mistake. Every truck I see that someone has tried to clean off the rust then prime and paint just leads to more rust under the paint, especially with "POR 15"
Awesome job! You've done everything that is reasonably possible to do on an older vehicle to preserve the frame. Brush painting the frame everywhere that you can reach with a brush with Rust-o-leum will apply a thicker coat of paint and then follow up with the spray cans to reach anywhere that the brush couldn't and it might save a few bucks on paint. Been hearing great things about Surface Shield, but although we have a number of products by PB Blaster available in Canada, I haven't been able to find the Surface Shield product anywhere.
ОтветитьThese cheap car manufactures could prevent this with just an extra $50 or so per car by treating it in the factor with coating similar to bed armor.
ОтветитьOver Kill use motor oil. Never fails 35ryrs no rusy on my frame 93 Takoma owner from Maine
ОтветитьThis guy is using rust reformer that is at way of Lanoline doing its job. It is Ok. We all pass that learning curve. Somehow go like this rust reformer, por15, than at end lanoline and cosmoline.
ОтветитьI used to get under my 97 Sierra and scrape and wire brush and repaint and it just kept rusting and flaking off. Finally started shooting Fluid Film underside that was the answer to keep the truck on the road. Sometimes I heat it on a hot plate and put in shavings of paraffin (an old candle works) and shot it while it's warm. That's been the best thing so far.
ОтветитьGreat job! will this Surface Shield stay "wet" and collect dirt and dust?
ОтветитьAfter NY state emptied your wallet they rot out your frames...move south and don't go back...
