Your rhetoric sounds good until you realize the fact that prisons are there because of criminals and because they have to pay for their bad behavior and we actually do need police because there are criminals who would kill steal qnd destroy whatever they decided they wanted to without them so go ahead and imagine a world that's utopian and make up words like ustopian and all that stuff to describe a place that does not exist and quite frankly you will never be able to make exist on planet Earth because of the fact that the criminal element will always be willing to take advantage of your pie in the sky dreams

As someone who has worked for tech companies for over 10 years I can honestly say they’re not here to make the world a better place, they’re here to make money. I like this idea of Ustopia and putting the focus, visioning and action back into the hands of the people in community rather than some multinational tech company that would rather replace humans with technology when the systemic issues we face as a society, largely are human issues we have to solve together.

She needs to watch some Star Trek the Next Generation. She is basically describing that version of the future...Minus the Romulans! ;-)

I would like to suggest that something called "Progress tension" is holding humanity back.

That is to say that the development of new technologies of ALL kinds threatens the environment in which we live. From the electrification of automobiles to the rebuilding of our grid systems and connecting all our new renewable energy resources to the feeding and housing of a population of 10 billion plus people.

There is an unaffordable environmental cost whichever path we choose to the future. There are those who genuinly want the sacrifice of the environment to be minimised and there are those who pay lip service to that point of principle but will continue as before. That's why there will inevitably be a train wreck even though we have known for fifty years what would happen.

Matter and money masters the world...always did.

When we will remember how to put more of our souls in what we do things will get better...

The easiest action every American can take is to register and vote against any and all candidates that support Trumpism. Better yet, run for local office! Change laws and policies with an aim to dismantling the greed driven machinery that stands in the way of UsTopia. Those are critical outer world steps that, if and when, taken by many millions of Us...can result in the genuunely deeply transformative rEvolutionary changes that will be required if humanity is to avoid a self imposed extinction.........which is where our current trajectories are leading us. There is no insurmountable objective reason for poverry, ignorance, disease, greed, war, crime, corruption, pollution etc anywhere on Earth. Common sense and common human decency can, and must, become...common.

Each and every one of us has a role to play in the labors of love that are/will be required to create a sustainable future for our nation and for the global biosphere of which we are a part.

Technology is not our savior, just the lesser of two evils, the human virus is the other evil ... Hopefully the former can put limits on the latter. 🤔

Funny...I wanted to show a good speech to my students and I ended up having a political debate. The UStopia idea focus only on black people and socialist agenda? Why is it that I feel excluded from this whole speech? I finished the video feeling anxiety instead of hope.

References to Cop City seem to imply that the people who are fighting against militarization have somehow won. The fight is real and continues. There are activists who remain incarcerated for speaking out. There are people whose lives have been changed by excessive oppressive tactics which includes charges of Domestic Terrorism and trumped up RICO accusations. We must all join the imagined future of justice, equality and peace. It is not an easy fight.

TED Talks these days hold little to no value anymore. Clearly, they’ll let anyone, including collectivist mouth breathers get up and speak. The people she criticizes so harshly are the very people who bring the most value to the world. Benjamin is a foolish idealist seeking to create a Utopian vision.
