that brass thing was part of a rifle trigger guard from a 18th century

I think the pointy thing may have been part of a weather vane. They are usually quite light in construction so that the vane responds quickly to wind changes. They can also be part of a lightening arresting system. Or could just act like that being on the very top of a house or barn.

I’d guess a weighted lead drop pin. Use a hammer to tap it in place and out.
