I think the sapphire is the one to go for, historically the only moonwatch that failed on the moon was a omega hesalite (twice) while the bulova backup was sapphire (and yes the glass was what failed on the hesalite).

its a 500 dollar watch .the silly writing on the back is a deal breaker for me.

The Omega Seamaster was my first true higher end watch quite a few years ago sending me down the wonderful rabbit hole of well crafted watches , the Speedmaster has been on the radar to long ….. it’s time :)

I feel like the newest one I can find is from the 1990s. Do they not make them anymore? Thanks guys

Want one before my 30th

I just got my SS on bracelet on 10.7.23 and I am very pleased with it. I have wanted a "Moonwatch" since the 70's and it looks like my timing is excellent. The 3861 with all its technical / mechanical advancements is amazing. The new 5 link melt on your wrist bracelet with the recently introduced on the fly micro length adjustment. The new stepped dial, lume, domed hands, dot over 90, etc... is close to perfection. I chose the SS because of the durability and the open case back. I love to look at the movement. I am very pleased. It set me back USD 8,000 and is a tremendous value. Oh, yeah did I say it is beautiful. A classy, humble beautiful.

Hi teddy, would you suggest to get this instead of the rolex explorer since this one is more attainable? I’m currently still waiting for my AD to call for the explorer.

My wife just got me the sapphire sandwich for our 25 wedding anniversary. Only had for a week now but I am completely satisfied with it. I have been collecting watches for a few years now and this was my unicorn. I have several watches in my collection but this is my first true luxury watch.

Only Omega can be so pathetic to advertise their moon watch which btw broke down in the space,Bulova should use this fact to advertise their cheap yet legendary lunar pilot.

Just took delivery of a sapphire sandwich Speedy, and this thing is exquisite! It is very comfortable to wear. Most of the time i forget it’s even on my wrist. Some will be happy to hear that Omega has updated the micro adjustment on the clasp to a speed adjust. Nice improvement! Overall I am extremely happy with this watch😎👍
My other luxury watches are a Rolex GMT Master ll , and a Omega Constellation.

Just got my sapphire sandwich 3861 2 days ago straight from omega. My dream watch. And boy..I couldn't be any happier, wore it today and it makes me feel good!! The packaging was amazing, paid $8300 after taxes.

For a 42 mm watch, it really looks fine on your 6.25 inch wrist. My wrist measures just about that, so I’m happy to see that. Overall, great video, Teddy as always. Thanks!

Pusists will disagree, but when paying top dollar for a watch I would rather be more practical than nostalgic. I will definitely buy the sapphire one. And it still has the great advantage of showing the beautiful movement through the caseback. A spectacular watch. Timeless, classic and to pass on to the next generation. Given the high price point for this watch now, why can't they provide a ceramic bezel on at least the sapphire version ?

I wonder where Omega would be if it wasn’t a moon watch? I was trying one on. Not too impressed- still beautiful, but for the price there are a lot other options out there. The AD rep was telling me how many she has sold. And I was turned off cuz is just as popular as a Seiko. I was kinda disappointed especially for the price. Im not a mainstream guy. But also if you are building a collection, would one nice to have. Sharp cases. Stop being a wussy. Omega has so many beautiful time pieces. But dang $7k-$10k. Super mass produced. Ehh. They can make deals.

Started saving for a speedmaster sapphire Crystal at the beginning of the year, fingers crossed it’ll get there sooner than expected

I tried both 42mm versions on my 7” wrist today and also a 38mm too. I was really surprised how well the 42mm fitted on my relatively small wrist. The bracelet is super comfortable too.
I’d probably go with the sapphire crystal over the hessalite as it makes the watch .5mm thinner plus you get to see the stunning movement through the back. At £7,400 it’s getting quite expensive here in the U.K. but I’m now officially in love with it so………

Great video I never knew the difference between the hesolite and the sapphire and couldn’t quite tell which one was which, telling these differences I’m all in for the sapphire.

I wish the hesalite version was self winding.

Love watching the Movements on the Back. I wear this watch Daily. It seems more Practical and Elegant Over my Rolex submariner. Can’t remember the Last time i put the Rolex on.

Generally not a fan of chronographs but this is one I can absolutely get behind. Iconic and impeccable design, a true looker

The METAS Master Chronometer certification requires movements to undergo the ISO 3159 certification, that is, the COSC certification.

Nice to have a clearly explained update on this model. I bought mine in 1974. The bracelet was OK, just, but over time the clasp became too easily undone and there was no way to adjust the grip on the wrist either. My biggest gripe about the bracelet is the spring bars holding it to the case. These are just too flimsy for such an expensive item. If they fail, then the watch is off your wrist in an instant and maybe permanently lost. Eventually I drilled out the case and fitted solid stainless bars and sewed on some velcro. Much more secure, comfortable and adjustable! Thanks for the interesting overview and escapement details.

I work on the solid rocket boosters for Artemis, and I’m about to graduate with my MBA. I’m trying to decide what watch I want to commemorate my graduation and I think for the romanticism of it, I may go with a sapphire Speedmaster. Which is funny because it seems a little sterile and I wanted something fun, but what I do and the history of this watch just seems perfect. It’s honestly between this and the blue Seamaster 300M (to remind myself to always have fun).

I'd take any of the listed options without quesiton.

Quick fact the gravitational force of space is completely reliant on the Speedmaster therefore if you better keep a Moon watch in ur collection Incase an apolyptic disaster happens here and ur only Choice left is to have a speedy transport u to a planet other than 🌎 . 🚀 Speedmaster owners will be the only ones permitted to 🚀 rocket themselves into space..better start saving up for a NASA adventure... 😂 Humans can Never lose hope with a speedy on ur list.Just be careful from Artificial intelligence they might be able to replicate fake speedys.

I used to like the Daytona but ah, the Speedy is a terrific alternative, and it's actually way more iconic.
