I Played GTA 4 In 2023... It Might Be Better Than GTA 5 (Review)

I disagree about the color palette. I loved the dark atmosphere mixed with the story it made sense, if they ever remastered and made it look like GTA v palette THAT would be boring to me.

Most people that push the sentiment that V is the best in the series more than likely have only played V.

Tbh when I played GTAV as a kid, I sorta just played it and forgot it existed. Played a bit of online, early PS3 online was so much different lol. It wasn’t all that memorable. Unlike 4.

I just completed GTA 4 a couple weeks ago and it cemented itself as my favourite GTA game I've completed (admittedly only the numbered games) pretty quickly. I love the story, I love the characters, it wasn't all too challenging that often to me but I also got the other ending compared to what you got so Jimmy and Mallorie didn't die in my save. I plan on getting to the DLC either later this month or at the start of the new year but it was a really fun experience to me.

I prefer GTA4s story, gunplay,driving,car physics and crash models in this game...gta 5 felt a bit generic for me

I will never forget the first time I play GTA IV. I was mersmerize with the driving, the graphics, the physics (want to say sorry for all the citizens of LC that I ram over sometimes during these 15 years). It is a masterpiece with its flaws because there´s no such thing as perfection. I´m agree with you in most of what you say in your video (nice job btw) but for me spare Dwayne is one of the best things in the game. You just need to hang out with him to discover a really sad history and how well done this character is. He gives you the best safehouse and bring you support with some fellas that still loyal to him on the streets. I would like to have more missions with him or PX after spare one of them as you said but it is what it is and still delightful. Keep doing good ;)

This game is best...but also it's pc port is fucking garbage

The lack of checkpoints was kinda tradition from all gta games until the galla of gay tony and of course gta 5, specially considering that many of gta 4 missions has alternative ways to complete their missions, with some making a mission shorter and the same happens on its dlc's but in a minor scale tough , also helicopter controls on console wasn't difficult at all xD might have been only a keyboard and mouse issue like in san andreas that i had to mess with the configurations to make it more conformntable, jimmy was on purpose a stupid mafia leader, specially when regarding to manpower, in the first mission you do with him he really dosen't care for people to green/new to his "organistation" and the obssed to be comissioned by the big 5 family's of the city, wich those 5 family'd thing that jimmy legit its a joke and thinking that gta 5 pushed to the limit the ps3 perfomance on its time, im guessing the cut content and features was a bit of fear of pushing it to hard as they did with 5 that one dlc for the online and perfomance die with it xD

Even with the few issues that it has i enjoyed the more complex system of evading police of gta 4 than 5, makes it more fun when trying to avoid police at higher levels, specially when gta 4 police its quite better at its job than 5 (specially with the noose and police able to survive more than one shot if you don't hit the head unlike 5 lol) and driving in gta 4 feels rewarding when you master how your favorite vehicles handle and able to don't fall from bikes or avoiding damaging the car that much, only issue is the lack of reward for the 100% as evryone knows it by now the why

Even with that, i enjoyed gta 4 and its dlc's more than gta 5 lol

I've just completed both 4 and 5 and I consider gta 4 far better than 5:

1) Gta 4 Is offline. No fucking rockstar launcher is needed to start it.
You cannot play GTA 5 if you for some reason you don't have connection

2) Better, clearly big start menù and button layout: it may seems insignificant but for me really count.
GTA 5 intro menù is very messy and got dirty for incessant banner advertisement.
The start button is tiny and relegated at the bottom of the screen

3) Better drama novel, better identification with the protagonist: maybe due to the fact you play three characters, you cannot identify yourself in any of gta 5 character as much and deep as you relate in Niko Bellic. The drama is far better

4) Far better gameplay physicality


5)Harder, more realistic but better car driving system. It is difficult to get it at the first but once you've nailed it, it's a lot more rewarding than GTA 5 toy drive system

6) Far Better, more objective missions: no irrealistic illogical shooter missions where in oder to get by with it, you have to start same non sense irrealistic superpower (like the first Trevor Mission)
In GTA 5 completing a mission is Often a matter of luck, due also to the switch to the three characters
during the mission
in GTA 4 completing a mission is only up to you: and if you are good, you pass it

7) better system of suspicion and its resetting: You know for sure that to avoid the suspicion stars you have to get out of the red area of the map. in GTA 5 there's no a clear resetting system


For completeness' sake, there are three big CONS points where obviously GTA 5 is better than 4:

1) NO Mid points mission save: if you dead you have to restart mission from the begin, often redoing the same boring driving part. what is even worse is the circumnstance that you have to restore your guns arsenal

2) worse health system: Gta 5 autoregenerate health is far better

3) No causal events as the casual robberies that make gta 5 more various and dynamic game


Long live to GTA IV

I've been playing through GTA 4 on a PS3 for the past few days and feel it's surprisingly immersive for a game that came out nearly 16 years ago. GTA V feels quite unnatural and arcade like by comparison. I feel GTA 4 is possibly the closest that Rockstar have come so far to creating a highly immersive open world city. Liberty City sort of feels like I'm almost in a real place whereas Los Santos doesn't.

I suspect a remaster of GTA 4 that improved on the worst aspects, such as the lack of a checkpoint system, clunky aim mechanics and somewhat dated graphical aspects such as the trees and shimmery effect on the console versions, would have been a lot better than the remasters we got of the 3D Universe games.

I will forever think this is a true game developed with attention and effort and this is why I regret not buying it
I pirated it when I was a kid and never really appreciated it untill I turned 25...
Looking at these new video games such a shame kids will never know how AMAZING this felt

It is better than V in many ways, my most missed thing in V is that you cannot dent the vehicle models, which you could (significantly) on IV.

Yea the driving is gold! If you can’t play racing games on a manual transmission (don’t apply to GTA4) and without ANY assist what so ever you won’t like the driving! I LOVE the driving it’s more realistic than GTA5

Bro the damn driving is just so much better. GTA 5 feels like some arcade game and the rag dolls sucked. Red dead redemption 1 has far better rag doll than rdr2 also. If gta 6 doesn’t have good physics like gta 4 im not buying

In V, I never felt compelled to hang out with any of the characters or do many activities. In IV, I always felt like it was pushed more and you wanted to actually hang with these characters. IV just had a slower pace to it but in a way that I actually prefer over V’s faster pace.

This game definitely deserves a faithful remaster but I'm scared as to what they would do to it. Looking at the definitive edition.

I might be insane, but I think GTA4's lack of checkpoints were a HUGE point in its favor. Rockstar had to balance the missions to be completed with nothing but what you have, plus ammo off the ground and some missions having health packs.
GTA5 often feels like everyone is firing laser guns in large numbers with no respect for the player. When you can die in a matter of seconds because enemies can headshot you while driving 90 miles an hour over a sand dune and the only penalty is wasting your time, I just found that extremely annoying. GTA4's deaths can be devastating, but there's almost always an alternate solution to the problem, be it a different approach or ignoring the game's suggested entry point and finding a new way in.
Mission design is simple and repetitive, yes, but there's usually a different way to achieve those simple goals, and I find it simply amazing to experiment and discover a previously-unknown route through a firefight.

I keep spamming on all gta 4 videos that keep appearing :D Rockstar knows what they re doing, and they re doing business, there is no point of making a perfect game. :D GTA5 was intentionally stripped of dozen of mechanics so they can implement it in gta6.
I predict that when developing gta6 they figured out some stuff that they will implement in gta7. Like intertwined stories and multiple faction characters.
