I have watched several of your videos and I have been unable to find the answer that I need .
I’m sure either Mac studio would be fine but here’s my question . Have you ever used the text overlays by Pixel film studios.
I have a late 2017 iMac Pro what is 128 gigs of ram and it is just freezing up on these three dimensional overlay fonts.
So I was trying to decide if I should get the max or the ultra and I was just hoping that you would perform some test where there would be an extreme memory usage upon rendering.
Everything I use an final cut pro a has to render and that’s the problem I’m running into the rendering is taking forever and so I’m going to buy one of these I’m just not sure which one.
I watch your videos because you do an extremely good job, better then the other reviewers as far as I’m concerned

I hope the benchmarks and thermals was done BEFORE tearing it apart. Just to get a feeling on the thermal paste that come from stock. That said. I thank the fact that you showed the processors size difference.

I recently bought M2 Max studio 2023 , I used it for editing in Final Cut Pro and is working well for me. The cpu is definitely a good buy from my review. I added external memory too.

Please put the right model details in the comparison. You talk fast and get the spec wrong.. Its a turn off (e.g. Geekbench 6 Mukti-core CPU - 1,999 M2 Max 12c scores 14,693 Vs 2,399 M2 Max 12c scores 20,785)..

Per usual the more expensive one isn’t really worth it for most people. Either one is over kill for photo editing anyways. That said I’m probably gonna get the cheaper one with a asus pro art monitor.

How is the M2 Ultra with Stable Diffusion? Wondering if it would run SD proper, or whether I'd be better off getting a high end PC with a RTX 4090...

I know you can’t test everything but it would be great to test a really heavy photoshop illustration and really heavy indesign file with a lot of spreads. I can chew through a tone of memory using indesign and photoshop in tandem.

These are way too expensive. I use an iPad Air M1 as my PC.

Nice comparison, thanks. However, it really does depend on what you use the Studio for. I've found that Fusion in DaVinci Resolve is still sluggish on the base M2 Max. Export times aren't an issue. But real-time editing and compositing was underwhelming. Even rendering compositions in place still happens at below 10fps...just like my M1 Mini! If you want super smooth compositing the base M2 Max doesn't cut it...even with proxies etc. enabled.

And in america the market share of apple computers is 20% which 0.1% need osx, and the rest are idiots who use these computers to browse the internet.

Doubling of the price rarely gets you doubling of the power. First there's the power curve and then the law of diminishing returns. Science aside in the real world you want that little bit more power because you are going to make money off it not bragging rights. I'm not naïve enough to think I need to always double my money, 10, 20, or even 30% gains are substantial.

What if you constantly work with 15-60 gig files in photoshop? Ultra 128 ram? 1 TB?

Spend the 2000 dollars, and in two to three years, when you upgrade it spending another 2 grand, that will outperform the one you spent 4 grand on just a couple years earlier.

thanks for the comparison... although lol, "double performance" is way too high a bar to set! 42% is a high boost. Plus, there are many more tiers of the Ultra - up to 192 GB, and 76 GPU's. I'm sure it gets there. But... yea double the money doesn't mean double the performance, that's kinda weird to expect, it just doesn't happen, we already know how it takes like 10 years to get a computer to be twice as fast.

i was told to get the max just because technology moves so fast it's ridiculous to overspend on something that's gonna change within 2 years time. kinda agree!
