Just remember the 'one' who has claims on music and the entertainment industry in general... interesting... I might watch it with you guys [love the outfits] but I'm waiting until the hype peeters away... the hive-mind vibe of when something is super popular has always creeped me out. Going in with a clear & critical eye works best for me. Still don't trust the entertainment industry. I'll be side-eyeing EVERY back-handed subtle freemason reference... [think I noticed black & white tile in a clip at one point... mmhmmm]🤨

I think Remmick recited the prayer with Sammie because you can't just recite scriptures. You have to have faith for that to work. You better really believe what you are reciting, not just calling words. Sammie was falling back on his father's beliefs, but those were not his beliefs. Once Sammie turned to his music, he used his guitar and bashed that big gash in Remmick's head. So Sammie believed in his music and it saved him.

So Angie knew the whole time vampires or haints existed and didn’t tell anybody? Also the Choctaw kept this a secret apparently. Think this is something the whole town should know. Also so ya mean to tell me Sammie went 6 decades knowing vampires exist and didn’t say or do anything?!?! And how Stack grew a gumbee? The undead ain’t suppose to grow hair! 😂
Lot of flaws in this movie. And the music/ club scene in They Cloned Tyrone said a lot more than the music scene in Sinners.

I think you guys should watch interviews with Ryan Kubler. Because it will give you a clear understanding of how religion played in this movie and the points of you that were expressed through the film about Christianity. Especially how Sammy and Remick, and more globally Black people and Irish people can relate to each other with how Christianity was brought into their lives.

I don't think Bo and his wife were important for the movie but they played their role. If anyone noticed at the beginning when Bo was talking to Smoke once he sent his daughter to get her mom - Bo asked “What y'all going be playing” and Smoke said cards, dice, etc., and if you noticed throughout the film he was at the cards section the whole time! Bo, despite having two good businesses, was still willing to gamble with his and his family's life and I think that is what caused him and his wife to die leaving their daughter with no family or home because she wouldn't be able to run those stores herself. That's my take on Bo, gambling man through and through.

I think part of the whole Sammie not putting the guitar down was because remember the lord says 'Come as you are' and after that traumatizing night he was looking for comfort and fellowship but instead as soon as he got in the church, his dad was already aimed towards changing who Sammie was, instead of providing comfort Sammie's dad was looking for a lesson to teach the church. HIs mother immediately got up to comfort and console Sammie but, his dad stopped her. Remember, Sammie mentioned that his dad beat him and his little siblings sometimes and one of the twins said 'he don't mean it' , that's because his dad isn't a perfect person (no one is) we all have inner battles and Sammie's dad is most likely still dealing with the trauma of losing his brother to the 'devil'. So, him becoming the pastor that he is - helps him deal with that but, he still misses the point of why he's supposed to be preaching the word and WHO he's supposed to be preaching to. THAT is why Sammie disassociated and fled instead because he didn't find what he was looking for in the church... His dad just went about it the wrong way and for the wrong reasons (in my opinion...🤷‍♀). He took the piece of the guitar (and the only thing that gave him comfort) because he felt that was the only thing he really had that kept him grounded and would protect him. We see this a lot today with the wrong people being in high positions in the Christian community who ruin the experience, damage the image, and ultimately cause people to stop believing and turn away from the church.

Ok I've watched the movie several times and some things you may need to know. Yes, there was some mention of the hoodoo, but that was more about using the practices of the ancestors. Not saying i agree because my root is Jesus! But much like people use holistic practices or Chinese medicine- which is usually practices passed down generations, Annie was doing that. This is why she stayed she prayed and worked every root to protect them. I took that as she loved him so much she used everything she knew to protect and fight for those we love.

Ответить
@chrissoniawinfree2491
@chrissoniawinfree2491 - 15.06.2025 03:57

A couple of things to consider. 1- Stack killed Annie because he knew Smoke wouldn't come without her. But he took Mary away when Smoke freed Annie because thats when Stack knew Smoke's love for him had probably hit its limit, or at least enough that he'd kill Mary if he could've.
Then Bo died because his wife convinced him to be disloyal. Grace tells him they should go, though he wants to stay to help his friend Smoke. But because she said we weren't there for that, just to help them set-up their joint. So she's the reason why Bo died and his willingness to be disloyal.
Last thing, Smoke had PTSD and it disappeared whenever he had to protect those He loved (which was his purpose). The only person who could get rid of his tremor besides Stack was Annie. His hands wouldn't shake with her and even when she was dying, when he was holding her neck wound, his tremor disappeared when Annie touched his arm.

I seen this at the theater and I know there was a lot of controversy over white people leaving in the first half. I know Black people that left in the first half. The first half was kind of boring. I’m just not gonna pay that much to go to a movie and not sit through it. I did end up liking it even though I absolutely think the first 30 minutes maybe a little more it’s just really boring.

I have to disagree with the second lady that came on. I agree more with what Addison was saying. The father was not telling him to only just sing for the church. He was telling him not to sing circular music, but the problem is his sons heart was with circular music. He felt more alive with circular music than Christian music, but the thing is circular music leads to the wrong path, which is why when they were in that club and he was singing those songs it attracted the vampires his father believed that his gift was to be used for the church not for the world, and his main priority throughout the film was to tell his son not to use his gift to play circular music, which is why he was telling him to put the guitar down not the guitar for the church but the guitar for the world you can’t have 1 foot in the church and 1 foot out in the world you choose, which one you want to choose and in the end when we see Sammie driving in that car crying with his hand beating his chest, that was him making the choice to be “of the world” that’s where his heart was lead. he couldn’t put the guitar down even if he wanted to. He just couldn’t, when he was beating at his chest crying with the guitar in his hand that was him saying this is my heart this is what I’m choosing. I’m choosing my music the way that I want to sing it and it’s not to be a singer in the church, it’s to be a singer in the world. That’s what his Dad was against. Now to Sammie his Dad probably did sound like the vampire who was tryna pull him into the dark side🤷🏾‍♀️ but I think him seeing it that way was misguided and how a young person would think when their parents are scolding them. Most young people believe their parents are wrong growing up, but then when they are older they see where their parents were coming from, now ofc in THIS movie Sammie stood by what he believed and even said that was the best time he has ever had (which was wild because people died babe😅) but anyway it’s Hollywood so there’s always a narrative. also the part where the vampire was reciting the Bible verse omg when I saw that the first time in theaters I CRIED because I immediately thought “you know the devil knows scripture too” he was an angel! He knows what the Bible says! And he was mocking Sammie! Imagine! That’s how a person will be fooled many times it may appear of the Lord but when you look closer it’s not of the lord, why? because you gotta know your enemies to beat them, you gotta study them…and boy the devil has studied hunny and he had PLENTY of time to study when he was an angel…ohhh that scene gave me the CHILLS!

The scene where, Sammie reciting scripture also remmick being able to repeat it with him. We forget that the enemy will know the Bible too, because the enemy will always study their target which are the children of the light, strategies, meaning finding loopholes. (Like I can say that prayer too, because it don’t hold no power to Sammie so why will it hold power of them)
That’s why God the all powerful, SUN, defeats all. Walk with God with Love and faith and not CONVENIENCE. God will provide you with Power and strength. Men are men but the Power of God over rules all.

I never once thought they were trying to play w/ God. Annie didn’t believe in voodoo, she practiced hoodoo. One is a religion, the other is a practice that incorporates ancestral beliefs. I don’t consider myself a christian although all of my beliefs are rooted in christianity—the main reason is because christianity WAS forced on us in an effort to make us more docile and tolerant of oppression and violence. i feel no way when people criticize the religion when it has harmed millions of people especially my people. i also don’t think people realize that a lot of hoodoo practices were hidden within the black church as a form of protection.

There’s a study or something that says people who are more intelligent or emotionally intelligent are less happy because they think more about the world around them.

Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, and because I have been attacked because he has saved me. I will never doubt that –
However, as a Christian, I believe it's important to confront history, not blindly defend it. It's also important to make sure that our personal reactions are justified by the word. Ultimately, there are way too many Christians who condemn art or ideas or people with absolutely no biblical basis – their only basis is their traditions. The bass is condemned by many Christians, percussion is condemned, vocal acrobatics, like running, and riffing are condemned.
It's easy to pick apart the movie, but you should not miss the deeper message – when we decide that anything that is not considered gospel is evil (not that we can agree on what is gospel and who isn't because we condemn gospel artists all the time) we are not only wrong, but we become blind to the sin INSIDE the church – you don't know who you are sitting next to a pew, you you don't know what is in their heart and Jesus tells us that that is where sin lives -
you don't know what evil you touch every Sunday when you hug your neighbor.
I think the point of the message of the film is that evil exists. – you will not always recognize it on its face. You are not wrong if you don't recognize it on its face – but once you see it, you have a choice to make, and you have the power to decide to let it in or not.

We all did try to figure out everyone’s sin. Even Annie, she was using hoodoo. That’s not a holy gift atleast depending on how you practice . Stack and Smoke dealing with the devil they know cause they felt even though they had reputation all around from Chicago to Clarksdale, you see they figured after robbing all sides, they knew exactly who the go the the moment they hit town. They would rather sin with their friends and etc than with people it was all business for. This movie actually really inspired me to look into the AL Capone era more and most of them died or ended up the same way. Everybody killing each other to get to the top. But from the film it seems Annie and Sammie were the only ones deeply praying. Can’t say no one else prayed or what religion they used but we see during the films Annie and Sammie were the only ones attached to religious beliefs and likely saved them. And not sure if Annie went to Heaven but it was definite for them to meet in the afterlife atleast.

Even beyond the religion and music aspect, there is soooo much history interwoven into this movie. The fact that remmick was Irish as opposed to being Transylvanian as we typically see vampires portrayed as in media is symbolic in itself. First, Dracula was actually Irish (I could be quoting this wrong but I believe he was written by an Irish). But not only that, if you know even a little about the Irish experience in the UK, they were kinda treated as “the blacks” of white people. We’ve all seen the famous poster “no blacks, no dogs, no Irish”. So it’s kinda like remmick felt as though he could ‘relate’ to the sense of oppression that black people felt because his people too were oppressed by the English. He said so himself that Catholicism/Christianity was forced upon them long ago, hence why he knew the words, despite hating them, brought him comfort. All this being said though, whenever a dramatic moment w one of the vampires happened, the score still felt very gothic, with the guitar and chorus, very dramatic and thematic, still typing back to the Transylvanian vampire lore.

Separately, I loveeee the parallels between vampirism/the devil himself. When we see remmick first appear on screen, he kinda drops into the scene sort of like he fell from the sky. And who was the devil?? A fallen angel. So were lead to believe like hm is this truly actually the devil? And then the first couple we see him manipulate, man and woman- kinda like Adam and Eve. It’s so many of these parallels throughout the movie I just get so excited thinking ab it.

Theres even significance in the vampire hunters being native Americans too! So much history and as a girl who loves history, music, and is African/black, I was literally having a field day!!

There’s so many things I can talk about like gentrification, the Asian representation, hoodoo vs voodoo vs Christianity, the use of lighting and color to emphasize certain traits in characters… honestly this movie will be discussed in schools and colleges.

The movie is set in Clarksdale, Mississippi, and Clarksdale does not have a movie theater. A local community organizer by the name of Tyler Yarbrough had an idea of launching a petition online, dubbed "the blessed letter", inviting Coogler with the cast and crew to Clarksdale. It extended an open invitation to Coogler, the cast, and the creative team behind Sinners to visit Clarksdale, walk the streets, meet the people, and experience first-hand the living, breathing legacy that inspired his work and the people of the town.

Yarbrough wrote the letter while attending a fellowship on a Choctaw Reservation. The letter quickly went viral after Capital B, a Black-led non-profit news organization, reported on it, and it was picked up by other news outlets and on social media. Coogler and Warner Bros heard and answered the call, and on 29 May, people in Clarksdale were finally able to see themselves in their community.

Coogler; his wife, a producer and co-founder of Proximity Media, Zinzi Coogler; Ludwig Göransson, the film’s composer; Sev Ohanian, another producer and co-founder of Proximity Media; and executive music producer Serena Göransson attended and introduced the 29 May morning screening, which was held in the Clarksdale civic auditorium. Both Cooglers have family from Mississippi. Zinzi’s grandparents are from the state, as is one of Ryan’s grandfathers and an uncle, who inspired him to make the film. They had a big screen set up in the city's auditorium and held numerous screenings for the people to watch the movie for free. All they had to do was register online for the free tickets to the screenings. On May 29th, a three-day festival kicked off in Clarksdale, Mississippi, with special screenings of the film hosted by Coogler, his wife, other members of the cast and crew, and Warner Bros. executives. The festival included panels with the cast and crew, multicultural events, and, of course, performances of some Mississippi blues.

I get that y’all are religious but you gotta expand your way of thinking a little bit. The point of the end was that Sammy’s dad was trying to force his beliefs and religion on him, the same way Remmick was, which is the same thing that happened to Remmick back in Ireland. The guitar is what saved Sammy, not cursed him. And him saying that night at the juke joint was the best time of his life wasn’t about him prioritizing sinning and doing bad things. They lived in the Deep South during the Jim Crow era; that night at the juke joint was literally the most freedom & community most of those folks ever got to experience.

With regards to Bo and Grace scenario. I think Grace was their downfall. She was cool with helping at the juke joint as long as they were getting something out of. However, as soon SmokeStack were in trouble, she was ready to bail. That was BEFORE they knew vampires were involved. No said “they’re our friends, they need our help “. She said “we’re not helping with this, go get the car”. Therefore, in my opinion, if wasn’t so quick to bail when the black folks needed help, she and Bo would have survived that night.

I want to note that Remmick wanted Sammie because the music (as narrated in the beginning) was able to conjure life and death and to me i perceived that as Remmick wanting to use Sammie to “bring back” those he’s lost in his lifetime through his music. Maybe it’s a stretch but that’s initially how i interpreted that plot point. I believe the art of cinema is the fact that we as an audience can interpret it however we like based on our experiences and beliefs and whether someone is religious or not. It can definitely be seen as punishment for people that sin and having evil be their fate due to temptation but also be interpreted as those people being a product of their environment (unfortunately segregation, racism, jim crow laws, etc) and just wanting to live a little and be try free even if it was for one night. Sure some things were wrong but we also don’t have context i.e we can say Mary & Pearline were tempted by evil for essentially committing adultery as married women but perhaps they were so unhappy and in a loveless and commonly abusive marriage for the time so can we really blame them for seeking some kind of enjoyment that was on their own terms?
