I’m going to try a garden for the 1st time ever this year. I’m only going to grow tomatoes, basil, and strawberries. So thank you for this video, it took a good amount of anxiety away and I got several good tips from you as well as some commenters

Can you just use the egg shells and not the whole egg. Cause I want to eat the eggs. But I have been saving the egg shells. And all my kitchen scraps. Dump in coffee cans. The dump in garden spot.

The egg thing is the silliest thing I've ever seen. A literal pinch of slow release fertiliser is a million times better. And far, far cheaper!

Some of this is good, most of it is nonsense. The wounds you're causing by cutting the branches overall will offset any gains from a longer root stem. In reality all you're doing is putting the root cluster further down, meaning it won't catch small showers and top run off. The style of rooting you get from the stem is insufficient in the medium term.

So how did the Egg thing work, I think if you used blood & bone it would have been cheaper and a better effect. Also your Olla pot is made incorrectly you should have used double planters to have passive diffusion by sealing the planter whole with a cork. If oxygen can only pass through the natural porous holes your water will last 3-4 times longer & your method is more likely to lead to root rot.

There's a lot of good tips jammed into this video. Great job. I suggest you try the egg trick for several seasons in a row before making final judgements as it takes many months for the egg to break down into a usable calcium source. You will see the most benefit in the years to come.

An older man I met at the hardware store told me they sprinkle powdered milk in the hole when planting tomatoes so they won't get blight.

Great video, especially I like the egg experiment. How often do you think you will have to pour the water into the watering pots?

Thanks for the tips, especially covering tomato plants from rain. I am a little low on funds right now (I'm on a very fixed income) to make the hoop house, I need to create a few more wicking tubs for potatoes. If I find the money it would be perfect for my 14 wicking buckets with tomatoes.

Good system! A few questions: Was the cement used just to plug the hole in the pot? Where are you located, what is the climate? How tall is your trellis? Do you use clips, or just wind the string around the stems? And I would love to see a video on how to build the trellis!
